Hello gents.

Looking for some help. I will be making my own replacement dash. Going to install an Auto Meter Gas Gauge. They have them according to full and empty Ohm readings. Looking for info
on what will work with a new replacement sending unit that is a stock replacement.
They have these to choose from.

16-158
73-10
Any help would be great and thank you.

73-10 if you are using a FACTORY sender but THERE ARE NO (that we know of) replacement senders that are accurate. You might need what is called a "meter match" or repair your old one if it is factory

Biggest problems with "repops" is some have too short an arm and don't "move" fully through the tank, and the resistor is not the correct "taper."

(Common old school "taper" for resistors is linear, logarithmic, and what is called "audio" taper used in volume controls)

I bought an autometer 73-10, but have not installed it yet. I wondered if it might work better than the factory gauge with the aftermarket senders, because maybe the gauge is lineal like the senders?

Sorry, no idea. "Back when" I had a Toyota FJ-40, I had a SW sender and gauge. They sucked. Damn thing was nowhere near accurate to anything and the needle movement was so much you could not tell what it was if moving, anyhow.

I always carried extra gas LOLOL

One day I was coming across the "long bridge" into town. This is about 2mi long. Traffic was going around "something up there." When I got up there, here is the WIFE OF THE LOCAL SHELL DISTRIBUTOR, her big o'l 70 something Lincoln was out of gas!!!! I got out the Jerry can and dumped it in for her!!

I used the 73-10 Autometer Ultralite (upper left) and it's worked great. Just make sure the grounding strap is properly installed on the tank.

I used an auto meter gauge hooked to my original sending unit, it is very accurate.

Nice dash Jeff. Where did you get the insert. I was looking for one just yesterday and I can’t remember who has those. I remember way back when they first came out they had blank ones to cut your own holes with.

This dash insert is made by Autometer. There are a couple other brands out there that are similar too. You can get it empty ( like I did) or with gauges already installed and wired. But it will cost you $$$ to have it done that way.

Thank you very much.
May I ask one question of you. Were the blinkers easy to hoop up with your new dash? I am not there as of yet and wondering if that was a challenge.
There are no provisions for blinker indicators in the dash. It CAN be done with small LEDs and drilling holes. As well as the high beam indicator. I opted to install some OEM fender mounted indicators in their place. I rarely drive at night so the high beam indicator wasn't part of the plan. Hope this helps.
The car had a home made dash insert (see first 2 pictures) when I got it. It wasn't bad but there wasn't a speedo. Most of the wires were already semi done. It was quite a birdsnest to
be honest. I did a bunch of fixing before I put in the new unit.

THIS is what it looked like right before installing it in the dash. I dislike wiring and electrical work, so this was a big challenge to say the least.

Painted color matched signal indicators.

@AlaskaJeff Thanks! On the other gauge cluster, you had to use the smaller gauges. Are they 2-1/16?
I’d like to find a blank on to cut my own holes.

I added the turn-signal lights, high beam and brake indicator light to mine.
I cut the factory plug off and wired them.
Somewhere I have the wiring colors wrote down for a 73 Duster.
If I find them I will post them.
Since this picture I added two more 2 1/8" gauges to the dash on the right side of the radio, fuel pressure and air/fuel mixture.
