Going down the Houston freeway, the self driving Tasla car wrecks because the officers up ahead working a traffic wreck had their lights flashing. It confused the Tesla. The car was self driving because the owner sitting there was drunk. He turned the driving over to the smart car.
Lucky no one was killed, it did injure 5 officers.
The Tesla owner as arrested and got a DIU.
Go figure.

How could he be charged with DWI/DUI. He wasn't driving the car .................."technology" was driving the car??? That would be my defense, let them drag the Tesla engineers into court and ask them why their technology failed!!! When I was in California, driving down the freeway at 75 MPH, I was passed by a guy reading a book (in the driver's seat). He wasn't paying attention to the car at all....it was driving itself (self driving car). If he had an accident and wasn't drunk whose fault would it be??? He was in the driver's seat but wasn't driving the car.

The drunk is responsible for the car that's why they were arrested. Its the same as being caught drunk and asleep in the car with the keys in your pockets on the side of the road...

Back in the 70's, 80's, I remember how some people could be seen driving down the Interstate reading a damn book!
Yes that drunk will likely be in the news later on with a high priced attorney pleading it was NOT his friggin fault!!!!! LOL

Look up the recent statistics of 18 wheeler accidents. far too many undertrained drivers out there. There is such a shortage a shortage of truck drivers and school bus drivers, and more, that self driving vehicles must happen. At 64, I probably wont live to see it perfected. And yes the learning curve sux. Good luck to all.

Let's add a twist.... it's your car... you're drunk... but your friends driving and wrecks... is it now your fault? Nope.
Can your insurance not cover him if you don't have coverage in your policy and even cancel you ...yes. The law is sometimes unbalanced

It won't take long for the insurance industry to figure out how to make even more money as the autonomous automobiles increase on the roadways. Plus remove/reduce their liability for such.

Do commercial airliners once they are in the air at altitude fly themselves? Whats the pilots doing during this time?......I think answers to both questions is simply.
Self driving cars today are not perfected to the point of being totally reliable and safe. Those police officers could have been killed and we still don't know how extensive their injuries are...
Any reasonable responsible person with a once of common sense would never become so disconnected as to not pay any attention to the road in one of these so called self driving cars, but today we have idiots and drunks now behind the wheels of these things and yes self driving one of these contraptions or my 69 Ply, your behind the wheel your responsible

Shortage in pay and parking

A drunk would be fairly safe in a horse and buggy headed home at midnight cause the horse knows the way and noone is on that road!!
Drunks and self driving cars is BS!
