Never done this before, I have a car on LI, NY going to Salem VA and a car returning to LI.
Anyone have any ideas

Drivable, or on a trailer?
May be a good job for someone who is retired, or not working regularly.
That's about a 10 hour drive from LI, NY to Roanoke VA area.
It's doable.

lots of car hauling services out there will pick up and haul on a auto carrier. your cost will depend on your timing the longer you can wait the cheaper they like to coordinate loads. Google up a local carrier " car carrier services " or if you have a friend at a dealer ship they get better rates and know the local carriers. more time/cost effective than putting it on a trailer and doing it your self.

I used JTD Logistics out of Cincinnati, OH. They have a pool of independents they pull from with pricing based on enclosed/open...individual or multi...etc. Service and communication were great. They were recommended by the dealer in FL

What's LI? Sorry, but Gobbly Gook didn't have anything.....

Be creative and go get it. That's what I did.

I haul cars but try and stay away from New York, but have been to LI once early this year and have to go to Warwick next week. My rates are $1.25/mile open trailer and $1.75 enclosed but may go up because of fuel prices. That is for personalized door to door service with updates along the way. Other transporters may vary...

 That is right in the ballpark for what I just paid, enclosed, door-to-door.

This guy hauled a car for me from Richmond VA to Clarksburg WV for $300, might want to give him a call.
I could not use my own truck and trailer to move it that cheap.

do what Freiburger would do get a truck with a cameras and tools to follow behind ya and drive it country:)

Now Dats cool..even better if the cops didnt stop ya...:)
We went up the 4 lane highway at 55 MPH. We had our arms up over the chain on each side it looked like were holding it on with our arms. Notice the tarp straps on the front and rear for the visual effect. This was in the early 80's the cops were different then. We were probably stoned and were laughing our asses off as people were passing us pointing.

We called that Duster the community Dog car. We would haul the Dogs back and forth to the shop with it. Anyone that wanted to use it just jumped in and took it. There are some pretty crazy stories that go with that car.
