The 1972 Dart Swinger I bought has had a Ford 9 inch rear end fitted at some point. It has Crager SS mags on it now, with 5x5.5 bolt pattern in rear, and 5x4 SBP in front. The tires in the rear are too wide for the offset of the wheels and the width of the rear axle, as they rub the fenders. On top of that, I really am not a big fan of these wheels. I would like to go with some steel wheels with the taxi cab hub caps. Does anyone have suggestions on where I could find them?

How was the rear changed to 5x4.5 (I'm assuming its not 5x5.5)?

This medical marijuana thing has really changed things. :D I am not sure what you are even saying. I said that the rear is a 9 inch Ford with 5x5.5 bolt pattern.

5x5.5 is unusual for us car guys. It seems to be more of a truck pattern

are you measuring them outboard of 1 thread to the center of a skipped one? thats a strange bolt pattern to adapt to a car.

5 x 5 1/2 is after-1985 d150 dodge pickup bolt pattern. Look for some 15x7 steelies. You would probably have to use the truck hubcaps.
If you, decide to have the axles redrilled, pay attention to the center register too. If you just change the pattern, I think the register will be too big.
You could also redrill to 5 x 4 3/4 if that leaves more room.

Original slant 6 car? Did it have a 7 1/4 in it?

Measure your axle length and order a pair of 5 on 4.5 axles. First I would measure the drum to drum. It may be to wide to find the right offset wheels.

Aftermarket axles should be stronger than cut-down resplined truck axles too. No Ford truck nine will fit under a dart at full width.
You will have to find out if it is 28 or 31 spline too, and find drums that fit. Unless of course, it has discs.

I could probably make Mopar 4.5 BP drums work, don't you think?

If you go to aftermarket axles for a nine, it will likely have a Ford passenger register, which is different than a Mopar, even though the pattern is the same.
Ford drum will likely be a simpler choice.
