Well, it’s been a while since I have been on the forum, but I wanted to get back on with my latest find and a quick update. My wife and I were involved in an accident in my old red barracuda, but thankfully we were ok. Car was totaled with no hope of restoration…

Here is the new find
1968 barracuda, seems to be a numbers matching find (except wheels?) that was restored in the late 90’s and has had less than 2000 miles since then. I’m the 3rd owner of the car and it is definitely a head turner with the triple green. No rust anywhere!
Can someone help me wit the fender tag as well?

Here are a few more

and some of the red one. Long story short, the transmission locked up going down the highway doing 75. Hit a hole in the ditch which caused us to flip.

and again, that is because of the parts shortage caused by railroad strikes just as they were changing from 67 to 68. I had a silver 68 (build date) notchback fish just like it. It still had 67 grilles, reverse lamp switch on the shifter, burlwood instead of linear wood grain, and more 67 fish bones that didn't totally disappear until March or April of 68 builds. My 68 did have the round side markers, spears and gills, lower dash pads, (just like this red example) and many other 68 parts but it wasn't a true 68 beyond its VIN. Gosh it pains me to see that red car upside down. If it went to a bone yard, the vultures feasted.
I have to add this... I've put a lot of thought into why there are so many green survivors, regardless of brand. At first I tought it was because so many geens were available back then. I had a 72 model Impala that was one of the best kept used vehicles I have ever seen.
Today I honestly belive that the initial buyer/owner of a green car has a different mindset from those who took a red, blue, or black car off the new car lot. I'll go so far as to say there is a underlying reason they don't offer tree greens on new vehicles today. Majority of what they have on the line is some shade of grey, with some reds, and blues in the mix. Bottom line.. While I'm not a big fan of green, I think I know why it is a good buy. Happy moparing to all.

Very nice car! Glad you’re here to tell the story. Were you able to keep any good parts off the old one anyway?

What about those who specifically ordered a green car?
My mother bought a brand new 72 Gran Torino station wagon, and did a bathroom over in all green, as well as new green kitchen appliances.
Green was in back then, imo.

I was just staring down on traffic awaiting an appointment noting all the grey/silver cars going by, could barely tell the brands apart. Boring and bland.

Btw, sweet 68, from a green fan.

Never heard of a tranny locking up? The ditch caused you to flip? Hard to believe you survived. Congrats on new car.

dam , ur lucky , or the Lord was watching over you !
What caused the trans to lock up , auto or manual ?? Only 727 I ever heard about locking up , was on a plug check , on the the dragstrip , guy threw it in reverse instead of nuetral ---------

Just finished a full magnum swap, I believe the transmission was the 44RE. The setup was out of a 2000 Durango. And when the transmission locked up it sent us to the ditch. It’s been dry and there were some old deep semi ruts which caused the front passenger a-arm to break… and it was all over from there. and yes he was watching over us for sure!

Wow - sure glad you and your wife were ok. That is amazing considering the roof collapse - you certainly had the good Lord watching over you in that one!
And that's a nice new replacement too. I likewise have noted many green cars from "back in the day." My 69 Charger is the medium green color with a green interior so I like'm!!

Nice trade up. Glad everyone was safe. Were seat belts in play?

Yes! I added aftermarket 3 point belts (from classic industries I believe) and they definitely played a big part in us being alive…

New one came with factory 3 point belts, and we use them every time we get in
