How Would You Fix Small Hole in Oil Pan (a la mexicana)?

-
Here's the ultimate in cheap solutions, a bar of soap. I've used it many times to plug a hole or crack in fuel tanks and hydraulic tanks. Granted these vehicles were going to scrap or were in accidents. Petroleum won't disolve bar soap.

Just rub the soap on the crack or hole until filled with soap. It's a great way to get you home in an emergency, but you have to check it all the time.

If he must use silicone, use permatex Right Stuff. It's more impervious to petroleum products than plain old silicone.

Of course to proper way, as everyone has stated, is to weld or replace.

Neighbor attempted repair with some kind of two-part epoxy without any more input from me (us). I asked him if he sanded/cleaned off the patch area down to virgin metal? Said he cleaned it up with gasoline. I told him to come back and see me if he finds it still leaks.

I'm sorry, dibbons. I am picking on you. Maybe I'm reading your post incorrectly. In that case, I apologize in advance.

No offense taken. I mentioned Mexican because we are working on the repair in Mexico. My spouse is the smartest gal I ever met, and she is born and raised in Mexico, so I'm not putting Mexicans down any (they just don't have a lot of money down here for repairs).

Epoxy putty. Oil/gas resistant. I patched a few ford oul pans that rusted through. Drain oil, wash pan rough up surface. Apply epoxy putty and let cure. Done.

i repaired a cracked riding mower crankcase. A chunk almost broke right off. Held for many years.

I like the solutions on the B side better. Especially the refried beans in the hole, and a tortilla for a patch, held on with sour cream and guacamole.

I getcha. Once again, I apologize. So many races get stereotyped.
I hope he keeps a close eye on his repair. He'll be looking for an engine.
