People getting defensive at car shows!

-
Isn't there a difference between "real" and original numbers matching?
I was at a cruise night and a man asked me if my car was a real 67 dart gt...I said "yes it's a real 67 dart gt console" car as apposed to a non gt car. Then he said well that's not the original engine and I said "you asked me if was real not if it was original". I then told him it was an "original" 273 car but that engine was long gone and replaced with the magnum that's in it now but it's still a real 67 gt. Tell me if I'm wrong. I wasn't trying to pass it off as original numbers matching. I just understood his question as not a cloned gt car.

Looks like a really nice car, but there's 7 things in that pic that annoy me. Not necessarily in this order.

1. Crease in fender tag corner
2. Unpainted tag screws
3. rust at fender bolt washer
4. Dirty water stain on inner fender
5. Kink in batt cable
6. Batt cable appearing like its rubbing inner fender
7. NAPA battery not even a fake topper

Real and restored to original are 2 different things. It sounds like yours is a real GT car with a different engine. You weren't trying to pass it off as something it wasn't.

I never registered my Dart because I don't want people coming around looking for it... I get the defensiveness to an extent. Thing is, people always want what you have even though at one point they all said it was "junk..." :)

You're not wrong. A real hemi car is a real hemi car, even if it has a 440 in it "for the time being."

I think that is pushing it by taking pix of tag with owners there. Good manners is to ask if you could take pix of vin first.
If it’s in plain site it should not be an issue although the actual owner might not see it that way.

Over the years I have had the #matching, "desirable" cars, Now days I just don't give a chit!!!
I still enjoy looking at the guy's more door 56 Chevy and talking to that type of guy that did all its work.... or the guy with the slant whatever... than the "rare" perfect $$$$$$ car.
When I decide to sell off one of my "works" I can get kicked in the balls enough then, why take a car to a show!?/:rofl::thumbsup::BangHead::poke::poke:

Like the guy that jumped me about my Swinger being original. "My car is original" he said. Well for one thing dude, it's not your car. It's your dad's. Second, they didn't offer a 273 in 71. BUSTED!!
U should have simply told him
If u dont have a Brain u might as well have two A Holes !!!

Went to a show tonight. Before I even get out a see a shaker hood car. So I immediately walk up and start looking. A lady and two guys were sitting in front of it. I take a pic of the fender tag. Lady immediately asks me what I'm doing and says why do you think it's fake? I say I have no reason to believe that I just like looking at sequence numbers, scheduled build date etc. she then informs me the car was built in October or November. . Here's a pic of the tag. The car was beautiful!

You should ask the person if you can take some pictures out of common courtesy especially when they are sitting right there......if it was me and you just waltzed up and started taking pictures I would be like WTF????

so a real hemi car doesnt need a hemi?

that makes no sense to me

then it is the "wreck of a real hemi car"
maybe

i dont know

i guess its like boobs

if you can tough em, they are real

I dont want a full picture of you, just your finger prints. No? OK. I did ask.

I took lots of pictures of a 1971 demon last week at car show and the guy was flattered that I was taking pics. I guess everyone is different. If I have the hood to my car open, and somebody takes pics, I have no problem with that.

Real yes....but not original...lol

no one said it was an "original hemi car" they said it was a "real hemi car"

side, like someone else mentioned, originals came with bias ply tires, 9 inch drum brakes and lousy shocks

Yes agreed...my point exactly. Semantics get in the way sometimes.

perhaps, perhaps not

in this day and age, it could be argued that when you go to a car show people will take pictures of your car
and if you leave the hood up, they may take picture of under your hood

would it be proper etiquette to ask permission?
sure
would permission be implied by the open hood?
sure

No, my point was that a "real" car is still a real car, even if it doesnt have all the original equipment. A real hemi car could get a hemi put back in and be a real hemi car again.
As opposed to a "not real" car, posing as something its not.
Now, mind you, i have nothing against clones, tributes, whatever, as long as no one tries to pass them off as original.
A hundred thou hemi convertible clone can be driven, had fun with. A five million dollar real one-of-nine hemi convertible might as well be a painting on the wall, too valuable to do anything with, other than wipe the dust off.

If I had a car like that, I wouldn't want anybody snapping pictures of the fender tag or VIN.....or license plate.
Then you shouldn’t be taking it to car shows, if a guy started snapping pic while you were parked on the side of the street that would be different.

I drove into a show and shine and this guy says “It’s not very loud not much of a muscle car” I parked right next to him got out looked at his straight six 64 Mustang and my son told him “what the hell, one of our heads is bigger than your entire engine”

why, you took it to a car show, thats the point of car shows, to show everyone your car.

Thats why I feel the car show happens when I drive around. I see your car and you see my car for one brief moment in time and that's it.

I will say I'm a bit of a tag junkie, and it doesn't matter what the car is, I like to look up tags just to see what the car had or was or what a rear end has in it for gears, etc. Its like deciphering a secret code and you opening Pandora's box. I also like tearing engine apart to see if they were rebuilt and with what.
