People getting defensive at car shows!

It's called being courteous......has that too been lost?
At the race track = I invite the kids to sit in our race cars and find time
to chat with everyone that comes in our pits for at least a moment.
However, If people come up and start to touch and handle my cars with
I have been working on (Some for last 50 years) --We then have a Problem.
Another thing I hate is when people ***** and tell me that I ruined a
H Code Sunroof 340 4 speed car with AC and shame on me!
Well 40+ years it was not a collectible when it became a race car.

Exactly.....and like you said you invited the kids to sit in your cars not just everybody's kids climbing in and out of them without permission.

I have ppl take pictures of my car at car shows. I assume because ppl like it? Just as long as they aren't scratching car ect I don't care. If you don't like ppl taking pics of your car maybe keep it in your garage at home out of site....

OK. But how many of you have had a goofball come up to you at a show and say, "My uncle had a car just like this, but his had a hemi."

Take all the pictures of my car you want. ....it's just a car, it's registered to me, and it's going home with me.

Jeff

I frequently have people ask me if they can take pictures of my car I always thought that was going above and beyond and that it was not necessary at all. But it's nice to know that some courtesy still remains in our society.

I can relate - just went to a car show / swap meet here in Wisconsin (Jefferson). Looking at the cars, and came upon an AMC Rebel (The Machine). Complimented the guy on what a nice car it was, then asked if it was real. He went off - he went on about how of course it was, and he cannot stand people that build clones, etc. I just started to walk away during his rant, then he kind of caught up to me, and calmly apologized, I listened as he showed me more of the car. Probably talked to him another ten minutes or so.
My boys and I go to that show twice a year. We were sitting on a bench on Sunday and a guy was sitting behind his car. Another car came in and was backing up too close to his. He was going ape **** on the guy... haha we had a good laugh.

Went to a show tonight. Before I even get out a see a shaker hood car. So I immediately walk up and start looking. A lady and two guys were sitting in front of it. I take a pic of the fender tag. Lady immediately asks me what I'm doing and says why do you think it's fake? I say I have no reason to believe that I just like looking at sequence numbers, scheduled build date etc. she then informs me the car was built in October or November. . Here's a pic of the tag. The car was beautiful!

I was at a car show & a mate said some guys were messing with my tag,s raced over & they took off had 1 screw out .
Guess what tags are no longer on the car & the hood stays closed

Looks like a really nice car, but there's 7 things in that pic that annoy me. Not necessarily in this order.

1. Crease in fender tag corner
2. Unpainted tag screws
3. rust at fender bolt washer
4. Dirty water stain on inner fender
5. Kink in batt cable
6. Batt cable appearing like its rubbing inner fender
7. NAPA battery not even a fake topper
The crease is normal and only one screw is painted

You should ask the person if you can take some pictures out of common courtesy especially when they are sitting right there......if it was me and you just waltzed up and started taking pictures I would be like WTF????
Can't say as I totally agree. I have people take pictures of my car at shows all the time. Sometimes they ask, but usually not. I think it is rather flattering. I did ALL of the work myself; body, paint, interior, mechanical, powder coating, etc. So I am flattered that they like it well enough to take pictures. That being said, I don't think I would appreciate a person focusing in taking pictures of my fender tag and VIN.

Like the guy that jumped me about my Swinger being original. "My car is original" he said. Well for one thing dude, it's not your car. It's your dad's. Second, they didn't offer a 273 in 71. BUSTED!!
I see that BS claim frequently.
All Original. New battery, rebuilt carburetor, new gas tank, exhaust system.....

They're not clones, they're tributes. :)
Back in my day, they were called fakes. But then again in the 1980s, you could still find the genUine article fairly easily since this stuff was only 15-20 years old back then. There was no point making a fake back then.

I dont do car shows. Never did. None of my current junk is really presentable anyways.
I used to, but not anymore. At some point years ago it became de rigueur to display gaudy billboards with all the statistics of the car along with oversized stuffed animals propped up, stuffed in the cars, shows filled with cars that “do the car show circuits” along with too many douchebags walking around criticizing various things on peoples cars. Undisciplined kids. Many things. Like being at a carnival. The pits at the drag strip is a better atmosphere and place to look at cars without all that nonsense. To each his own as they say

That was my point as well......it raises suspicion and as stated before the owners were right there and a simple request to take the pictures was all that was needed and i'm guessing almost always would get a sure go ahead response.

yeah the drag strip is enjoyable because the cars are actually running ,thee is the sights sounds, smells LOL! Plus a burger and beer stand...

Why wouldent both fender tag screws be painted?

Because when the painted the car the tag was yet in place mounted with only one screw and bent up....after painting it was fixed with the second screw.

But I've also heard there were different procedures depending on plant...

When the clone first appeared I wondered WHY!! there were still plenty of real cars to restore. It as a flipper thing I guess that started it.
Now I have no desire for another real car to do, ie Roadrunner, Charger etc...don't want to have to give stupid $$$ for a car that not too many years back I wouldn't even consider a parts car!!

A feller i have known for way too many years has a 70 dart clone. I did wthe walk around assessment, all the while he is saying "its all original" now, keep in mind this guy is a flipper, always buys low sells high, been that way for ever. car is that siblime green, black stripe, no swinger emblems in the usual places, 360, headers B& M shifter hooked to a 904. dead giveaway is ,the interior, standard dash, painted body color...the rust bubbling up in the lower quarters, Im telling him "this thing will need body work..." hes like "its done.." Im like "oh yeah?" flippers...I checked the VIN looked it up on my phone it was a slanyt car originally. Thing is, I have had an H code since 1993, took it down to metal, did the body work... I can tell a clone from 10 feet away...knowing the guy he paid 8 grand wants 12 to 15 for it.I laugh and walk...

it doesn't matter really.. till you start saying "its all original" and asking 25-30 k LOL! people don't realize repainted /redone isn't "all original" those cars, in that "original survivor" condition are worth the most...IMO. But the clone guys, they are a different sort...
