I have a stock 01 5.9 magnum in a 71 dart. 340 hp manifolds, 727, and an 8 3/4 with 3:55 gears. Street only, I do highway drive occasionally at around300 rpms. I am looking for a good tight street converter, any suggestions?

I agree. Give PTC a call.

I have a 2001 5.9 Magnum stock bottom end, aluminum 2.02 heads, mild cam (.215/.223 @ .050, .517 lift), Doug's headers, Air Gap and 650 AVS. 904 and 3:55's.

Filled out the spec sheet on the PTC website, then called and talked to them. Got their 9.5" converter. It flashes around 3500, but runs great around town..I forget it's a stall converter when driving around town.

Drove around town for over an hour yesterday. Only hammered it once since the wife was with me!!

If calling around and being very specific with the tech doesn’t bother you and you want a great converter then calling the companies being mentioned is a good idea. But if you just want to order one online for your not very unique setup that’s a bonafide winner I’d order a 10” Turbo Action S-800 “Tight” (excellent converter)
You’d need the correct flexplate for the Magnum engine that will allow you to use any neutral balance converter.s800

The turbo action S-800 tight was what i was leaning towards, right at the top of my budget too. I may upgrade the cam, and valve springs later, but that's about it, nothing too drastic from stock. I already have the correct flex plate for a neutral balance converter as well.

I am looking to upgrade the cam later, and possibly the heads. I want to buy a converter now that will work for both possible scenarios.

These converters are not limited to one setup. They work within a certain range. You don’t have to change a converter unless you go outside it’s ideal range with cam, compression etc. Call Paul @ TA and ask if you would be best with their 11” or their tight 10” with your stated current and future plans. I’m thinking 11”
