67 GTS 4-Speed: Daily Summer Driver

One thing keeping me from putting the interior together has been moldings that run along the top of the fenders, doors and quarters. Do want to have to put the interior in and then take it back out to install these trim pieces. I polished the trim years ago and remove the anodizing and was looking for a way to coat them to protect them from the elements. Well a member here suggested to use sharkhide metal & aluminum protectant and it came out pretty well! I may have to try and get some time over Carlisle weekend to get these things installed!

This past weekend was a productive one. I was able to make it to Carlisle and picked up some good stuff! got a super six set up for the convertible, some small a/c stuff for the charger and a few odds and ends for the GTS. However I had a lot of time to get stuff done to the GTS:

I was able to chase the bolt holes for the seat belts, installed those and got the rear section of the carpet in. I got the window sweeps in, rear upper trim pieces in, the rear cards in, the inner sill moldings and the rear bench in! looks pretty darn snazzy.

I was going to get the front carpet trimmed and get the console and kick panels in but realized I was missing one door ajar switch, so I decided that was enough interior work until I can get the door switches in, high beam switch in and bring the front seats back. I also need to make a wiring harness for the tach. So I moved my attention to the gas tank. I tried bending the strap and the J bolt to get the clearance I needed from the pipe but nothing would work. So I ended up dimpling the pipe to get the proper clearance. It fits okay, I dont like how close the pipe is to the gas tank but I am not to sure I can do much about that

Seeing that I had a friend over for the show, I got him to help me out installing the peak trim on the car that I just coated. And man does it look great!! I got the fender mounted turn signals in as well. One step closer!

This past weekend I did a little more to the interior. I got the door switches in, high beam switch in, sill molding and kick panels in. I struggled more than I should have with installing the seat tracks onto the seats, so I only laid them into the interior for next time.

A friend did find the rocker trim clips on eBay!! So I was able to pick those up and they should be good to be installed! So in preparation I got the Sharkhide on those panels.

Last week was kind of busy so I did not get to post, but I was able to get a couple things completed on the GTS. I got the dome line in and connected. I found a trunk light harness online so I installed that as well. Unfortunately the spring in that switch is no more. I dont know if there is a way to repair that so I will have to find a new switch. I also started the process of creating the harness for the console tach. I found out that a lot of the connectors are the Packard 56 style so I got a couple of them to make this thing up. I also had to rob some fuse blocks for the fuse holders so I could put a fuse in the accessories section of the fuse block to run this tach. So I got the wires laid out and this past weekend I was able to install those packard 56 connectors. Now I just need to wrap the harness and install it and the console can go in!!

I also found out it is not to hard to install the ignition light if you can find a map light harness. Well I found a repro one of those, found a map light switch online, and the ignition light. Getting the time delay is easy but finding that odd three prong connector is not. Well a friend has one off of his junk harness so I will be able to use that one! just did this to my 68 convertible and it works great! However I will have to drill into the chrome bezel to provide a path for the light to illuminate the ignition at night.

I was able to get the dash harness modified for the 4 speed reverse switch on the trans. But, while I was looking for the ignition light components I saw that they have reproduced the reverse dash light. Seeing that I like things that light up (even though this light didnt come out until 68) I figured I would install it! So I just need to get the dash ready for that!

So the list dwindles too:

Get the seat(s) in, finish the electricals on the dash, put the coolant back in, bleed the brakes, add steering fluid in, bolt in the shifter handle, get the tires installed and this thing would be ready for some shake down cruises!

Oh I am well aware! as time progresses I find there is less and less of it in a day. The Fiance mentioned it would be cool if this car could be at our wedding next year, which is doable, it just needs these various tasks completed and broken it. On top of the other car work I want to get done on the other vehicles.

so in other words, the race is on!

Like an old 2-stroke dirt bike (or some women...) always need a little tweaking :rofl::thumbsup:

I apologize if you have already answered this as I have not yet had the opportunity to read this entire post (although I absolutely plan to!). Have you already registered it in the GTS Registry? I love the car and you've done a fantastic job bringing this thing back to a beautiful state! Keep the posts coming!

This car was actually registered in the GTS registry before I got it a couple years ago. It is GTS # 422. Originally bought in New York, the information I was given it was purchased for street racing. It made its way down the East Coast with a stop in the carolinas and florida. Made its way back to the New England area where I purchased it from in 2015.

Awesome! I just love the history of our old cars! If you haven't already, you can email him with pics of the car now and when you first got it. I'm sure he'd update new ownership and post some pics of your car. She's a pretty one. Looking forward to seeing the end result! I own GTS #778.

on the registry #778 shows a picture of one of my favorite angles. Nice looking car:thumbsup:

I'm with you thinking #422 should get a picture on the registry.

Thank you for that! I love this car. The 67 GTS is one of my all time dream cars. I finally got one! With all the hard work he has done ont #442, it deserves a few!

thanks for the Idea! I will send pictures once I get the rocker trim and tires on!

MW - bet it really "rocks-it" with the 440 under hood, not that the 383 was a bad engine. The poor 383 so often times considered the "Red Headed Coke Bottle Glasses wearing Stepchild".

A girlfriend of mine, from way back 75-76, had a 69 Road Runner, 383, auto, column shifted. One night I was driving and the fastest car in town (69 Chevelle SS 375 horse auto, with some work) came up next to us at a 1/2 mile straight, I looked at her sitting next to me on the bench seat and she said "go for it". So, we rolled to a stop and she signaled 3, then 1, 2, 3 and off we went. I couldn't believe that car got him out of the hole and pulled away from him, not like he was standing still mind you, but we "walked him" until both of us let of the throttle. BTW: I just left it in drive, foot on brake to keep it from rolling and on 3 matted the go pedal. Ah the memories...

I wish I knew. The car was finally delivered yesterday while I was working out of town. My wife drove it from the drop off to the garage. I haven't driven it yet and with it dumping rain today, I likely won't for at least a couple days. The previous owner had this car 32 years (2nd owner), and said he got caught in the rain just twice. He also said that in drive rolling around 35mph, if you pedaled to the floor it would downshift and send you sideways if you weren't careful!! I don't mean to hijack this thread. I will say when I started it in the garage......let's just say you can tell this isn't a 273 car! LOL!

I was finally able to take the GTS out for a cruise the other day. I will say it will take some time before I have the courage to drive this thing anywhere close to what it is capable of. Cruising at around 30mph and stomp it to the floor comes with a sudden head jerk to the rear and an immediate awakening complete with tire smoke and the car sliding it's hips to the side! With manual steering.....it can be a handful! The manual brakes are surprisingly impressive though! It brought a huge smile to my face and I tipped the odometer to just over 20k original miles before parking it back in the garage. I just love this car. So happy I was lucky enough to find and buy it! I will say stopping anywhere will add at least 10 more minutes than usual to your stop as it draws a lot of attention.

Went home this past weekend and got a little work done on the GTS. More attention was on one of dad's cars that we finally got back after 3 or so years trying to figure out where that car stands, but hey, progress is progress right?

I got the trunk light switch installed (thanks @DARTGAME!), but didnt put power to the system to try it out.

I got the harness for the console tac made and partially in. I got it stung into the right areas just need to push the terminal into spot "J" on the bulkhead connector for wire T11. Need to add the connectors onto the tach and then the console would be ready for install.

I created the harness for the ignition light with the map light harness I got. I got it laid into place and started to drill when I couldnt find the map light switch... MAN I WAS/AM PISSED!! cant believe I lost it, I sure as hell it turns up sometime soon. All these new electrical components were either sitting in or on the car and I do not know why this switch wasnt there. I am the only one that works in that garage... With the ignition light I have to drill into the chrome surround for the ignition switch but also carve out some of the bracket that holds it on in order for the light to pass through. No big deal, just short work of it all.

But, I figured out how I am going to wire in the reverse light dash indicator. Just piggy back off of wire B2 that comes out of spot "F" on the bulkhead connector.
