The best bang for the buck is a HEI dist. Self contained, no external boxes reqd that have more connections that can corrode/fail, cleans up the engine bay. They also produce more energy than the Chrys system, which is why you can 0.060" plug gaps with them. A hotter spark plug is always beneficial. HEI also has adaptive dwell for cooler coil operation & extended high rpm operation.
The best thing you can with an MSD fancy dist is.....leave it on the shelf at MSD. It will do NOTHING that a HEI dist can do except lighten your wallet. The HEI actually has an additional benefit, the larger cap. Reduces the chances of crossfire with a high output ign system.
I have used a great many $100 Chinese dists here. Never had a problem. They are well made, & when I strip them to put a curve in, tolerances are tight as they should be & the bits that need to be lubricated are.
Big cap pretty ugly though
Just saying !!
