I'm considering a new trailer purchase Other than keeping your trailer out of sight or a locked fence, what are ya'll doing to keep it safe. I have reviewed several locks, just wondering what you have done. Also, interested in real stories of thieves that were thwarted by your efforts Craig

It'll at least slow them down and require making some noise...

I just sold my aluminum open car hauler. I had room to store it on my property. When not in use I had a lock that fit up into the ball hitch. And I stored it with the hitch in towards a dead end - fence. I have a dolly that hooks to my riding tractor that I used to drive it out. During the off season-winter months, I took all for tires/wheels off and had the trailer up on blocks, stored the tires inside out of the weather.
My trailer also had the serial number sticker in two places. One up by the tongue where one would expect it and a second duplicate up inside a channel visible only with a flashlight and mirror.
The salesman explained that if the trailer did get stole and recovered, but the thief had obscured the normal vin tag, the duplicate hidden tag could be used to prove ownership. I though that was a good idea.

On the side doors of my enclosed trailers, I had the double-lock flush mounted latches with the tractor trailer swing arm locks, or whatever they are called, over the top of them with a HD padlock.

Rear ramp doors always had a lock/latch assembly on each side.

Tongue was also doubles with a ball-type lock and another HP padlock through the ball latch. All padlocks were keyed alike.

Sometimes I padlocked chains through the wheels also.

I hadn't gotten around to the other good suggestions that were mentioned.

Just remember no matter how you lock it up if they want it.. they'll take it. My buddies 18' trailer/sled/atv where taken right out of his yard while he was home, cameras on and all. They backed the tilt n load right up to his 3' chain link fence, dropped the bed over same and winched it on and left in less than 5 minutes. Why on our Talladega trip I made sure I parked the rig where there wasn't enough room to line up a tilt and load with our truck and trailer, to just pull it all up onto a 45' tilt n load deck.

They may not take the whole trailer just steal the contents. Locks are easy to cut off. I recommend extra security on all doors.

I hate a damn thief!!! They getting alot bolder and brazen!! Hot lead!! And plenty of it ...obey the commandments!

Yep this happened to me in St. Louis for drag week in the Holiday Inn parking lot.
Not only the trailer but the pickup and Lance camper. That's what I get for saying yes to "I got a extra room. Oh well.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Craig
