Hello all,
I have a 1972 Dart Swinger that takes the bow-style headliner. Does anyone know if I can use the 1971 ABS plastic version instead? If so what other changes are required to make it work such as interior trim pieces and such? Thanks for any input you may have.

71 should also be a bow type. They changed to the hardboard sometime in 72. A 72 could have either type depending on the build date.
I dont see why you couldnt throw an ABS one in a early car. The ends tuck under the glass seal and the sides are held in by trim. Most of the headliner weight is supported by the dome light, sunvisors and rear view mirror.
I can say this, if you have a bow type now thats what I would stay with. Its much better looking in my opinion.

I believe you meant the 71 bow style to the 72 1 piece version.

No you have to use what came in the car unless you custom fit it

Had a gentleman do my 72 Dart. He is 85. And said he was guy doing them on the line the first time. They do great work.

What do they charge? I need one installed in my 67 Dart. I've had it stretched and clipped up in place for several years now. Just no idea how to proceed from there.

It goes my hourly rate. $100 per hour. Probably 4 hour job. Call them. The number is listed in the photo. Father and Son are both named Chuck.

You will be blown away. They did my Carpet also. The last of the old time shops. Dad is doing most of the work at 85 yrs old. You would swear he is 65. Tell him the Black 1972 Dodge Dart sent you.

Looks amazing. I have a 72 as well that's on my list to work on. Your car is beautiful. Congrats!

You can do it yourself and save money. I never did a headliner before I did my Duster's. Have faith in your skills and take your time. If you have it clipped, all you have to do is work on getting rid of the wrinkles and contact cementing the pinch welds. You're almost there.

Yes you can do your own dental work too. But sometimes a person with 60 years doing it might have few tricks you don't know. Good luck on your quest.

I had no option other than to trailer my car to the upholstery shop and spend $700. I decided that I could waste a lot of headliners and still save myself money. I won't argue that an experienced upholstery guy can do the job faster and even better, but I got great satisfaction from doing the job myself and at my home.

72Dart, No doubt, your guy has mad skills! Not 1 wrinkle! Unfortunately I don't have any windows in my car or an enclosed trailer. I live about 10 miles south of Ypsilanti. Trying to schedule a dry day going into fall may be a challenge. I would hate to ruin his nice work with wind on the highway. Thanks again for the recommendation. I'll see what I can arrange.
