Looked on line at new gas tanks for my 70 Dart. There are plenty available and i saw only one that has 4 fittings on the the left side. I said hmmm that must be off a later Dart with heavy pollution controls. I looked at my tank and it doesnt have the vent tube on the filler tube, but has the 4 hoses running off the tanke into a sealed tube in the trunk ??? Is this a Kalifornia emissions setup ? I have a vented gas cap. Can I run it without. The vent tubes or am i asking for trouble ?

I believe its called EEC (Evaporative Emission Control), typically a California thing but might have been standard a year or two. I think it was added mid year on 71's. Hopefully someone will chime in and check my facts.
I dont see any problem capping them off as long as you have a vent. Later cars were vented up to the charcoal cannister, others had vented caps. Figure out what you have because some caps are not vented.

Great, thanks, im thinking ( which can be dangerous) that i buy the 18 gal non vented tank and make sure i have a vented cap

I would recommend buying the tank with the vent tubes and keeping them... We did on our 71 Valiant...

They also 'catch' evaporated gas and recirc it back to the tank... With the price of gas today, every drop counts...
