My 1st year in 47 years without racing

-
pittsburgh isnt the only one having a bad year,i am too
It happens, my ear was 2018... Started out with a near fatal car wreck for someone ran a light and punched me in the driver's door and sent me flying, then the stroke I had in my left eye that I still to this day get a shot in my left eyeball every 2 months... That happened in July of 2018 and then in November of 2018 my appendix erupted...
Hopefully 3 years from now Pittsburgh will look back and say that was a crappy year like I do about 2018...

@pittsburghracer well I did things in a different order than you. Last year I had the Coronavirus the first week of March at the tender age of 64. It was rough for three days and then it took about 2 months to get my energy back to 100%. Had to quit playing basketball during the panic shutdown since no indoor gyms were allowed to open. I decided to take a company buyout (Boeing) and retire in June of 2020. I was enjoying a nice stress-free retirement until July 14 of this year when I had a 12 hour a-fib heart episode at the age of 65. I was playing golf with my other retiree friends when it happened. All of my tests showed no heart damage and all of my blood work was normal. The doctor cleared me to resume normal activity. A month ago I overheard my wife telling our daughters and my siblings that I have noticeably slowed down since the heart episode. Just recently the basketball gym opened up again and I got the invitation to resume playing. I haven’t started up again. This is the first time in 55 years that I haven’t gone out and played or at least shot baskets. The fire and energy to go out and play just isn’t there. Feels strange but not worrisome to me.
You are doing fine.

I told my church community group I can be at my lowest of lows but I get up Sunday morning, take a shower, and go to church. The second I walk in the door I start to smile. 6 years ago I wouldn’t have even considered doing this and now I love it.
Sometimes we just hit a rough patch in life. You will find that it will pass and you will have learned from it. I just went through a rough patch last month with my back. Healing now but agree, health is important.

I hope you get better physically and emotionally.
I really enjoy watching your threads and listening to your knowledge.
I will keep you in my Prayers !.
Most important thing is you have the best life insurance policy money can't buy !
Christ is king !
Keep on keeping on !

right there with you. Wife leaves way before me on Sunday mornings as she plays keyboards in the church and they now practice before service( used to be Fri nights)
I don't attend church anymore, I can't hear/understand the sermon. We live in the country, so I can just go outside and be in God's church.

Well all I can say is let’s make 2022 great again, starting now. I would have been racing two months ago if it wasn’t for that set of heads I moved the pushrods on. When they or the intake were sucking oil it took the wind out of my sail after all the issues I had getting them ready. I have another shortblock all ready to go but I was saving my other good set of heads for my son and that was a big mistake. There was no way I was going to throw my 422 back in as I ran it five years already and didn’t want to risk hurting my R3 block. I will rebuild my spare powerglide and have a spare engine ready to go.

I just turned 69…my Parkinson’s is starting to affect me. Hard to even work on my Duster. Still racing in my 07 Charger R/T …. Going to keep doing what I can as long as I can

Amazing how priorities and things change with age. There was a time when a race would get rained out I'd be miserable all week. The last few years at the track haven't been as fun as they used to be. Mainly I've been letting my screw ups over shadow my success. Wife finally got pregnant last spring and covid hit so we laid low and got things in order for the baby. I did race once in 2020 just mainly to say I still went. We had a little girl in Jan and we raced about half of what we used to in 2021. I still have a desire to drive, but it's def not like it used to be. I actually enjoy tinkering with the cars and fabing up stuff to try and make them better than I do driving as of lately. But racing is like a drug, the days I'm home doing stuff and not at the track I wish I was at the track. If I go to the track and stink up the place than I'm like man should've stayed home and got stuff done. Just keep pushing forward, but I say if you can hit a TnT this year do it. It will let you know if all your issues are sorted out and you'll be ready to go for 2022. Plus a nice smokey burnout also helps keeps that fire lit.

I can relate to where you are. I haven't been able to get out of my own way since June. But yesterday I decided to live in each day since there are no guarantees for tomorrow. Glad to hear you are setting your self up for success.
I finally got out to the shop and started in on the new al shortblock. Setting a goal of Dec to hit the dyno and hopefully match or exceed the power the megablock made.

Pittsburgh racer...funny thing is this year was the first year I ran my Fox Body down the track at test and tune. I have an 86 convertible and its stock and ran stock times( I looked it up) LOL! anyway I was so worried about red lighting ..and in three passes i didnt red light which was good. First pass was the fastest. Then I got into going over the car fixing issues. I may get out next year I found all kinds of issues. The thing is a convertible also so I dont think Id build it up for any real power. I thought about it though. LOL! Any way, good to take a break ...

Hell I’m only 54 and I’m already thinking exit plan…. I haven’t skipped racing in 30 years now. Had a couple I only made it out twice during my daughters fastpitch era, but have always managed to make it somewhere. You’ve had a great run John. Hope you find the spark to hit it again.
