Has anybody used one of the flywheels from Rockauto? I need one for a 1974 318. I assume Rockauto flywheel are China made. I just do not want to replace it 5000 miles down the road. But I really do not want to spend $400 on a flywheel.

If you’re going to buy a flywheel, for gods sake and your safety, buy a steel one.

RockAuto does not make parts, they are a reseller. They deal in manufacturer overstocks, dealer liquidations, closeouts, etc. for the most part.
Take your flywheel, for example. They probably list several different ones, all different manufacturers. You'd have to look up the manufacturer of the one you're looking at to find out the country of origin (yes, most all are made in China now, regardless of brand). Most of their parts are the same ones you get at O'Reilley's, Autozone, NAPA, Advance Auto, CarQuest, etc. Quality varies between brands, as always.

Yes, on my 318. Have not had a problem. Its a daily driver car.

best bang for the buck if you don't want to have your flywheel go bang lol. We have ran several and they seem as good as anything else priced at a few hundred bucks.
1045 Billet Steel Flywheel - New-440 Source
and you can bet your *** they are cast (billeted forged?) in China. Reason I say this is that its not Chinese that is crap in general, its the spec its called out to from the customer. If it were made in USA, it would be plastered all over that ad. Plenty of stuff on new cars is Chinese origin. If 440-source is selling it, its probably been vetted by them as they are run by enthusiests and most likely would not sell an inferior product again (their restricted passage aluminum water pump housings gave them a black eye already)

Agreed, so is my crank, my rods, ignition parts, almost 80% of auto parts. Sadly half the stuff I get with made in the usa on it is crap, new small block edlebrock head castings vs. speedmasters for example.

Imma disagree and agree at the same time.

I'll admit, not everything from China is ****. I guarantee that what ever weapons they're building to attack us with will be top notch

The problem with China is consistency. You never know if this flywheel is the one with a void in it.....

Imma disagree on the Chinese weapons..Chinese stuff encountered in Vietnam was crude, but the numbers will be on their side. Training will be where we excel. They got 99 reasons NOT to scrap with us, and 98 involve (our) economy keeping them afloat.

I'm running one of those flywheels from 440 Source in my 340 Dart and have not had any problems with it. It came with a counter weight bolted to it for external balance engines but just remove it for internal balance application. I see the referenced ad now says internal balance only. I don't have a shattershield so I wanted to at least have a little insurance against a flywheel failure and I thought this steel one would do the trick.
