Replaced my Dart

-
Yeah I wasn't trying to be rude.
Nice plan I guess, everyone wants to see how fast they can go with what they built, understandably. A body In the eighth you won't be over 95 mph with the street strip na sb you're aiming for or most for that matter.
My opinion of what you do with your car ultimately is just that...an opinion. I know that some forget that part when they read the responses and feel judged 'not assuming you felt that way' I'm just saying that's sometimes the case.
Have fun and make sure your doors still close right in the end.
Thank You. I respect your opinion. I'm a bit torn because it's an all original, desert car with no rust. I had an incident when a young lady crashed into my garage at 40 MPH while I was in it. I have to replace the LF fender, and repair the door. Life moves on, I won't let this kick me in the a**. Covid is slowing the build of my 408, but the original numbers matching 340 is safely tucked away. After I've had my fun with the 408, I'll put the original numbers matching 340 back in it and pass it on to my eldest son. My new fender is in my avatar. Special thanks to Clemintine. Paul.

Glad to see my buddy Joes Dart got a new home. The front wheels used to be mine. I hope you enjoy the car.

Joe is a great guy, we had some good laughs while I was there! And I will have a blast launching it down the track!

I sold my numbers 340 cars.
My cars I beat on are slant cars.
I've not totaled or wrecking into anyone or wall with any of them. I probably hurt them more with constant wot and hard shifts.
When I see roll cages and 20 stickers in the windows.. it doesnt come off as occasional strip use to me. This all gets me thinking now... I need to find an old hemi car to gut and stuff chevy crap into with a heavy ford 9"...then set it on 20"s...probably ball bat the fenders for clearance and maybe wheel of death the inners out too.... then super dave osborne the fkr with 250 shot into the wall @the 60ft and land rooftop on the crowd.
..but 1st let me 1st load some faberge eggs and ming dynasty statues in the trunk for weight to help it hook off the line...
You do realize you are in the racers forum. If you are going to complain about roll cages and racing a Mopar I believe you are in the wrong place.

I think next year I'll take the new Dart with the 340 down the track a few times before I swap the engine and transmission. I might as well, it's a running car!

We got the engine out of the old Dart and found the cause of the crash. Blew a freeze plug, never had that happen before.

It’s not much consolation....... but at least you know what happened.

Looks like they are the “shallow” type plugs.
I’d suggest swapping them out for the deeper ones.

I started putting Indianhead sealer on mine around five years ago. I also use a diaper on my engine now and although it may not catch everything it should help.

I've heard the same thing from some of the old school racers at the track. All of the freeze plugs will be replaced

I'm a little late to the game here, but I'll say to the O.P. good for you on getting a new car to replace the old one until you get it fixed.
It looks like it will need at least a new front clip, but the car is definitely repairable from what I can see.

And on the other topic discussed on this thread, a lot of people forget that when these cars were built, they were the basis of a higher performance build, or a fast and reliable street car as built.
If you are in doubt, just look up what Dick Landy, Sox&Martin, Mr. Norm, Ed Hamburger, and many more were doing to these so called ''rare cars'' back when these cars were new.
A lot of people don't or can't (because of age) remember when these performance cars were just cars, not collector cars worth big bucks if they are original and numbers matching.

So, do what you want within reason, it's just a car and always will be after all.......

The car is very clean, frame, floorboards and trunk are all original and solid. I won't make any decisions for a while. I need to go over all the options and not make a rash decision that I might regret

Im almost 64, and have always loved Mopars, and know all the racers you mentioned and more, plus the local track hero, a 71 Demon 340, "The Demonstrator." I appreciate all the responses, and will continue with my plan. The original NM motor with the dizzy, carb, manifolds, air cleaner, and the rest have been restored, and shrink wrapped in the heated garage. The built 408 is going in for old man fun. If they ever have the local Mopar show again, I'll enter it in the stock class and keep the hood closed. As my avatar shows, I'm ready to hang the new fender soon. Paul.

Just got the Dart out of storage last weekend and have the new exhaust on. They're the cherry bomb header mufflers, cheap and easy. The car runs great and I have a few things to do before it hits the track but I've been doing a little bit every day. Should be able to make the race on Memorial Day weekend. Not much known about the new engine but it's healthy and the trans shifts nice and solid, should be a mid 12 second car
