I wonder if the hood from the white truck would fit the black truck?
That black one I like the best

How complete are they?

I’m looking for a new to me truck 72-80 series.

My shop is near the scrap yard. When the brown one appeared, I went to investigate what was going on. So I paid the scrap price and agreed I would move the other 2.
White one, 440 auto, seized, no carb, exhaust manifolds or front brake rotors. nice floor
Black one, 360 auto, no alternator, distributor or ecu, has dual fuel tanks, box is rough
Brown one 400 auto, not seized, bullet holes, rough
Was a Comet on the bottom
I have more trucks and useable hoods.
I already have 2 trucks at home, his and hers, under construction, I just wanted to not let this batch go for scrap.

The grill in the black ‘79 is a nice looking piece. I see a lot less damage on it than most others. That’s a 1979 and 1980 only core support, and both years could be ordered with either quad headlight or round headlight grilles. Hoods from the 1972-1980 trucks interchange without issues, being they were designed for the same front fenders and core support height. There may be some differences in hood latches, I don’t remember the details there To the best of my knowledge, grill mountings were different from 1972-1976 models, 1978-1978, and I believe the ‘79 & ‘80 had a different core support for round or quad headlight models.

I know from experience (I’m in process of wrapping up another one), those 1979 grilles are a total ***** to ship! I have a pile of used baseboard molding I make a frame out of and bubble wrap the hell out of them and then cut cardboard to enclose them.

I don’t know what you plans are, but if you restore those vintage pickups, and don’t throw crazy money into them, it would be easier to make money off vintage trucks today than it is on vintage cars.

It’s kindly crazy with the prices some of this stuff is getting anymore. 1st Gen Ciummins trucks are the hot commodity right now. You could nearly sum it up as “Redneck Hipster Bait”… if you’re building a truck to use for yourself, 1981-1985 is the sweet spot in dodge pickups. All the best frame reinforcements, large door latch pins, solid non vented doors with reinforced internal hinge plates, non CAD front axles, and the simplest of the improved wiring systems. One of the largest purchasers was the u.s. government and the armed forces wheee the government had bailed ChryCo out. It’s almost like those trucks were built to Mil-Spec.

The hoods will interchange but you need the matching cowl panel for whichever hood you’re using.

The 72-76 core supports have extra large holes in the lower area for the turn signals that are down in the lower valance.. those bird bath hoods aren't too hard to find around here...
And yes they are much more valuable dead than alive LOL unless you're talking a completely restored truck...
