I finally purchased a 408 stroker kit from scat. Here is my plan. 10:1 compression, ported speedmaster heads, following PBRs thread. Howards solid cam 254-260 at .050 .586 .593 lift before lash. rpm intake 750 holley dp . Besides stroker kit I have all the parts. This is going in a 3500lb 68 dart 4000 stall, 3.91 gears and 26 in. tires. What do you think. Total budget build. Any hp or torque guesses? E.T.? Just for fun.

He has enough carb, but more has always shown better for a track car. IMO, the tire is a little small In diameter.
But…. If it works…..

How much flow at your cams lift ?
Id multiply that number by 2 & there in theory should be your ponies.
Torque 500, I'll guess 510 hp
Good luck to ya !

Hi Aaron......you should turn everything up a notch, lol, another point of compression, solid roller and more cam, at least a victor intake and if one could be found a super victor would be even better, bigger carb and more converter, 28 inch tire, lol.......just messing with you but basically giving you what the barracuda was the first time around. Glad to see your gonna have a peppy little small block.

Thanks Mike. Your right I should turn it up. But I can add a 100 hp whenever I want. I wish it would run like your car did then. We'll see.

That would awesome. I was hoping 475 hp and 500tq.
You'll clear that no problem!! You can go 10.5 CR on pump gas and as others noted, more carb. Mine is similar to this with an 850 DP, Super Victor, and a tad less cam. Cleared 500 #-ft at 3500 rpm. 26" tires will be shredded and need to be replaced!!

I weighed it on a NHRA scale twice. It actually weighs 3540 with me in it. I am 260. I need to check it again. I can’t believe it weighs that much either.

Mine is 3300 with my 185# in it with a glass front bumper and bolt on glass six pack hood. It does have a S-60, R1 block, all the heater/vent, radio, wipers, rear seat, six point bar and Kirkey aluminum seats.

when I see 4000 stall converter the first thing I think is nope, not big enough but then I look at the rest of the combo. I like your choice of gear and the tire helps even more. I never ran that intake and at this point never will but I know a port matched LD340 works so if you port matched that intake it should work well. Plenty of cam so you covered that well. The car is 300 pounds heavier than I like but again that happens with street cars. As far as a 750 being to small I’ve gone 9.80’s with a properly tuned one, but I really like 850 double pump holleys. I think if you learned a thing or two from all the Speedmaster posts WE made you should have a fun street, street strip car. I have to open my mind and think not everyone is building a full bore race engine. With the parts you assembled I know that engine at that weight could easily run 11’s and that can be a lot of fun. Good luck.

I’m getting older so I want something I can drive to the track race and drive home and do a little street action. So much more fun for me than loading a trailer and everything to go racing. And something I can run in sportsman and 12.00 index at some tracks.

@aaronk785 I think your in the area right good.
The ability to run (faster even) in the 12:00 index is a good bracket racing engine not terribly taxing parts and shows really well on the street.

For my next street stripper I was thinking of a A-500 trans just so I can get a good cruise RPM in. Sometimes the distance is a bit far to live with a 4.30+ ratio. I’d like to keep up with moderate moving traffic at least.

Nice. What’s the cam duration @050?

Are you pitching me?

I honestly don’t remember , I had a problem with the 408 either a broken crank or bearing failure luckily nothing got damaged like the block or heads I haven’t taken it apart yet my 363 is going back in . I know the R block is worth big money I am considering parting the 408 out.

3500lbs...500hp conservative guess with gearing/tyre given and a good hook gives you ultimate possibilities of>
60 Foot E.T. : 1.55 Seconds
1/8 Mile E.T. : 7.03 Seconds
1/8 Mile Trap Speed : 96.68 MPH
1/4 Mile E.T. : 11.14 Seconds
1/4 Mile Trap Speed : 120 MPH
1/4 Mile Trap RPM : 6,081 RPM+slip
