Are cats narcissists?

-
The best thing ever happened when our cat JLo decided to live with us! She was a street cat for almost 3 years. She escaped from a "cat house" 10 miles away. Some morning she sat on our bench in front of the house, for about a week we strocked her and talked to her, and she enjoyed it.
She had a microchip, so we found the owner pretty fast. Well we talked to the owner and agreed to keep her with us.
She had almost 2 lbs overweight, and big hips....JLo. Fat cat doesnt sound so nice :)

Having fun with her for 10 Years now, and she is still rocking!

We also have enjoyed the friendship of cats for many years. One, 20+ years. Our friends stay with us until the natural end. Usually 4 cats at a time, but we're getting older and have to drop the fleet numbers as they pass.

People who hate cats, in my way of thinking, are very immature and unwilling to accept that every cat is an individual personality. Yep, better be able to compromise, but they are not without feelings of affection and they will compromise, believe it or not. I don't hate dogs but rather, cats give me (us) peace in the mind. Be kind to cats and really, all of the animals. I respect other animals for what they are. Even a rattlesnake. They're just living like rattlesnakes. It's easy to not fiddle around with them 'cause they will never like it. Let them live out their lives.

Cats are animals who respect those who respect them. Makes life easy for all.

My cats are cute furry snugglbunnies until I start seeing critters too close to the house or in cars. Then we go from cuddly bunnies to kitty finding himself drop kicked to the yard with an empty food bowl.

I don't have time for critter problems so I'm not going to mess around. When its clear and clean, we can be cuddly buddies again.

I find they get ineffective in service after their 10th birthday. I try to retire them to homes where they will be full time indoor cats after retirement.
Three times, I've had cats past 10 years and they are slow and they get pesky and whiney and the critters take advantage.

I have replaced and retired two, who are indoor cats now. The third one was too slow and got taken out by fox which was the eye opener of the ineffectiveness of old cats.

We are currently in a transition of training some new guys, because gritty kitty turns 10 next summer.

I'm the exact opposite
Dogs have a slave mentality, no character
You can mistreat a dog all day and toss it some scraps and it will think your his best friend
But a cat, they have dignity, self respect
Ok DIY that is funny right there! We got both cats and dogs and love them all, I do on occasion threaten to trade the dog in on a goldfish however! And I double dog dare you to mistreat this one and think some scraps are going to solve your 100 pounds of pissed off German Shepard! LMAO.

I feel like you're talking to me because you quoted me but you're preaching to the choir about cat haters. My post probably seemed a bit abrasive because I do have expectations from the cats because there is a very large area out back with a lot of old mopars.

I feel the retirement plan I have in place is the most humane because they finish out their days as indoor cats amongst my friends, because most people I know like an older and settled cat in the house.

I'm glad most of you have the space and amenities to nurse an old cat till his natural end but such is not been practical here.

Even though gritty kitty turns 10 next year, he's been my most reliable and cuddly cat I've ever had so he's probably going to move in the house with me even though I've never had an indoor cat.
He just took down a huge rat the other day so I think this cat is far from finished but if something happens to him, it would be the most heartbreaking because he's like a 300k mile slant that's still running like a top.

awe hes just a big pup

im a cat guy at heart but if i ever felt the need for a dog, a Shepard would be high on the list (right after a coney)

I don't know about you cat haters, but ever since our outdoor cat clan of about 25 cats started hanging around, our mice problem has gone away. They get the squirrels too. And our indoor cats get any bugs that come in from outside.
Our dog is just a little **** that likes to steal stuff.

I commend you for sending your older worker cats to indoor homes. Our cats have always been indoor cats for their own well being. We live in metro Denver. We've seen numerous animals run down on our 25MPH street. Some of our cats come from the farm where my wife grew up, but we have adopted several older cats and kept them for life. We both miss all of them. I'm glad your ten year old is keeping busy. I suspect a rat is a challenge for a cat. Good on him.

Losing one of our little predators is always heart breaking. We usually have 4 cats around all the time but we're getting older and it's hard to leave them for vacation drives. When our 2, Bob 13 years and Suzy 16 years are gone we'll probably get no more kitties. It's already an occasional conversation around here of how we might handle not having kitties and we may not be able to do it. The Dumb Friends League adoption center is about a three minute drive from our home. Way too close. Might be our undoing. Cats are family around here. Again, I'm so happy that you find good homes for your retirees.

Big Hoffman my feline terrorist frequently opens cupboards. From the chosen door in the bathroom he also opens the bottom drawer from inside the cupboard. The roller hung 7' tall closet doors, child's play to him. :realcrazy:
