Got up this morning with plans on working on the dart and maybe doing some more on the ram project well I had to move the mountaineer ( my everyday driver atm) to get the dart around back. Get in the mountaineer nothing just cranks won't start. Ugh! So I start diagnostics on it. I learned today that in 2004 they stopped putting fuel pressure valves on the fuel rail its all electric so no way of testing the pressure. Im not getting any codes. So I spray some starter fluid in the TB and it fires right off. So im getting spark its gotta be fuel related. I check the fuse and replace the relay still nothing. So its gotta be the pump right!? This tank is tight and there is no room to work at all so the only option is to drop the tank. Right? Wrong! Screw that i don't have a lift and im not working under this heavy bastard on jackstands so I find the pump and cut out the carpet and cut the spot welds and remove the floor pan. And the pump is right there easy to remove. I pull the pump put in a temporary electric pump and it fired right up. So the pump is bad im assuming unless there is something in the system electrical not communicating to the pump. But it seems if that was the case I'd be getting a code. Idk seems like I'd have a code if the fuel pump wasn't working either. I'll go buy one tomorrow and try it out. I'll keep yall posted

I like the way you think.
but I would have rolled it on it's side to access the tank.
I like your idea better.
good luck, it sounds like you found the problem.

Holy cow advance and autozone want 300plus for a pump rockauto 76 bucks! GeeZ!! I can't wait for delivery tho it needs to be running tomorrow. Im tempted to rig up a electric pump on a toggle switch.

For the cost of express shipping you'd still be way ahead. I get FedEx to my door in two days for $10 more.

That's what I did lol I ordered it, it was 96 with shipping its supposed to be here on the 18t. Thats not gonna help much to I gotta be back to work the day after tomorrow I guess ill be driving my wife's truck. I swear I have 5 vehicles and none of them work right lol

I know ford was bad about fuel pump relays, and a reset button you had to push after a collision.
I have had issues with both, just shutting them off, and trying to restart the next day.
I really did not change any fuel pumps, when I worked on alot of fords years ago.
The guy I worked for at the time, rebuilt salvage fords, but the issues were always the same.
Relay, or reset button, or a few times just plain low on gas.

I checked the inertia switch it wasn't raised they will be popped up when they are defective right? I pushed it down and it didn't do anything

Very Good. I'm assuming with your talent that "I don't hafta" tell you to seal that opening up WATER tight. (CO)

Yes they will sit proud about 1/4" if tripped.
Check the relay.

Hey, that works !!! Van folks cut access holes in the floors too....

That's how it always is, Evil forces band together to prevent us from working on our good projects.

Its a conspiracy man!!

Working on latter model vehicles is an acquired taste. The way newer vehicles are designed it is very simple to work on them.

The caveat is that you can't work on them in the same fashion as old cars.

I have been taking in a lot of customer work and it's all newer stuff like a tune up on a duratech that requires you pull the upper intake to reach the rear spark plugs. And yes, you are correct, no Schrader valves after 03....:elmer:

I assume your mountaineer is rusty so an added access door isn't a big deal but if you had a totally rust free vehicle then it would be different.

Are you referring to the relay in the fuse box? I replaced it with no change.
I thought about your first post so I went back out to check and the inertia switch is working I jumped it over no change then checked and I have power coming in and out of the switch. However im not getting any power at the pump. From what I can tell the pink and black wire is the hot that comes from the inertia switch and it has nothing on it. So maybe its not the pump after all
