My '65 came with variable speed wipers and the switch has problems. Variable switches are a little costly and since I rarely drive in the rain I am wondering if a single speed switch will work in my car?

I believe you can use a 2 speed switch, but not really familiar with pre-67

Mine was a variable speed. I Took it apart and cleaned the Contacts and used some dielectric grease.Nothing was broke or cracked. Good to go.

The wiring is a bit different between the single speed and the variable speed....both on the switch and the motor. I'm sure you could mess around and find a way, but, the wipers will run full blast all the time. Not worth the trouble in my book. Run a wanted ad here on FABO with the part number off your old one. Someone's bound to have a good used switch.

Great, that's the best way to go. It will save you a lot of grief down the road. Just make sure the motor is properly grounded and the pivots move freely while you're at it.
