This is the diff plug on my '68 Dart. What type/size tool is required to remove it?

looks like a hex of some sort to me. clean it up and measure it. If it is a hex, it will need a big Allen wrench or you can use a belt grinder to make a tool from round or square stock. It isn't rocketry tolerances.

By the looks of it, you're not going to get too many tries before it strips

It's 8 pt that's why an extension and a breaker bar work

I'm familiar with 1/2" square drive plugs, so this one was new to me. I suspect the intent here is to make it easer to engage the drive (8 positions vs 4). I'll give the drive a try tomorrow.

That's an old-school 8pt "star" socket plug. I once bought a key wrench for those at a swap meet. IIRC, they used a similar, if not identical, plug on the max wedge intakes.

Clean the dirt out of the plug before you try to insert an extension or ratchet I would use brake clean and a pick or small screwdriver to get the best engagement.

I would try just the ratchet first before the extension on the ratchet ! Less chance of stripping the plug !! Or use the shortest extension possible !! Great suggestion halifaxhops !! I've used the same many times !

I used a chisel and hammer to get mine off after I stripped the threads. I found a standard plug I could put a wrench on for a replacement.
Good luck!
