I would imagine that a 71 Bug ain't much better. Doesn't get all too cold here but there are times that it does.....like last February! It's done that about 3 times in the 58 years I've been here but it does hit the freezing mark quite often and I found out that you can't run 30wt oil in a Bug during the first winter I had it! Thought the battery had gave up so in went a new one. That was another reason for not liking that car. The heater (what heater) sucked right along with the defrost.
