I'm having difficulty removing the E-brake cable end, even using a Lisle 44210 tool. I didn't find any removal guides on YT, only installation with the 44210, which is the easy part.

Try using a 1/2" box end wrench or whatever will fit over the end to squeeze the prongs while you pull from the back...
I use dykes to compress the spring, lightly clamp the cable, pull cable back and unhook. Takes about 30 sec.

Yep! Did it for many years. Piece of cake! I was turning wrenches when this stuff was daily drivers....installed brake shoes on GM, Ford, Chrysler daily. Only a couple part numbers and we had them memorized. Yep...I'm freakin' old!!

I had to look up "dykes". Diagonal pliers. I'll give them a try.

Removing the cable end from the lever is simply a matter of pulling back the spring and unhooking the cable from the lever. As for the cable housing being clipped into the backing plate, I've mostly used channel locks or a big screw driver to compress the clips while I pull on the cable housing. There's three clips evenly spaced. Once I get one or two of them compressed, I just pull the housing off to the side a bit to hold them in the backing plate hole. Then compress the final 1 or 2 to release the cable housing.

I got them off today, along with a small chunk of my right index finger. I had a very difficult time of it. The spring force is very high, making it very hard to compress to release the cable end. I wonder if the E-brake is adjusted too tight.

I use a small worm-gear hose clamp. Seperate the clamp, feed it under and over the spring prongs. Tighten the clamp and wola, the cable is able to be pulled thru the hole in the backing plate. Yes this is extra work but works for me. Other recommendations are good too!!
