So, I thought I was finished with my 68 Barracuda but, out pops another problem. The car was sitting on level ground and when I went out to take it for a drive I smelled gas. I opened the fuel door and saw that gas has traveled up the pipe and ran out thru the fuel door. Is this a common problem? I understand that gas will expand on hot days but, I have had this car for three years and never once seen this even on a humid 98 degree day in the south. Plus, it was only 85 degrees. I am at a lost and I would appreciate some help.

The car has a vent tube attached just inside the main fill tube, and that tube goes down through the floor and ends "open." The fuel cap is supposed to be sealed / unvented. Therefore overfill should flow out through the vent tube and down and out under the car.

Maybe the cap seal is leaking, or the vent tube is plugged

I will check the vent tube to see if it is clogged. It leaked out of my cap too. So can I get another seal for the fuel door or do I have to replace the whole unit?
Also, is this a common occurrence on this make and model?
Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.

Not sure where in NC you are but I was driving my 69 Dart in Wilmington all day yesterday. Funny, I was just thinking and I also smelled a whiff of raw gas and actually pulled over to check for a leak.
It wasn't topped off with fuel so
I'm thinking it was the hot sun?
Or I gotta check like 67Dart273 suggests.

I live in Hamlet. I have never encountered anything like this before so it has me a little baffled. Good luck with your Dart.
