Selective Service Draft Number

I don' t remember anything about being "high or low," I was 19. Still remember a cold nasty raining late fall night about this time of year or November. A "U" joint had failed in my 57 Chev and a friend of mine and I got stranded just out of town. This was a VERY wide spot off a 35 zone coming into town, you could have parked 4 or 6 semis there with plenty of room. We had pulled the shaft, walked a couple miles to my Uncle's 76 station, fixed the shaft, and walked back, this was maybe 6PM. Just in time here was the ISP who had already called a tow truck, who I had to pay off to get him out of there. I was PISSED. The car hadn't been there over an hour or two, and it was 50' or more off the highway. ISP was just being a dick

So then I got home and walked in the back and Mom says "greetings"

Had to go into Spokane on a bus for physical, but signed up fro Navy. Later I had to go in again--myself--for Navy physical This was in a raging January blizzard about 10F and blowing and snowing. The 60 Falcoon I had would plug up the heater core intermittently. I had cleaned/ flushed it out AGAIN just for this trip. Got up early about 2AM and discovered NO KEYS (Found them more than 6 years later in my ham shack junk out back)

Got about 4 miles from home AND THE HEATER PLUGGED. I "thought" I had prepared....I carried some blankets and heavy clothes but I was still cold as hell when I got to Spokane for the Navy tests and physical

I went "in" on the "120 day delay" program, so my parents drove me to the Spokane airport --about 90 mi. from home-- in late May, ?? about 26-28 of May 1968

I was "designated" as electronics tech, so I had to agree to commit to 6 years. I did good in school at Treasure Island, and got Ground Controlled RADAR school in Glynco, GA, ended up at NAS Miramar for four years

Ham club at Treasure Island it was an all purpose place to relax, have fun, and "get away" K6NCG
