Im doing a set of AMD full quarter panels on my 73 Dart Sport, it been going good but ive ran into something weird, the amd quarters have a diverging bodyline right where the quarter bends down to meet the rocker panel "i marked the lines in yellow". I believe its causing a gap where my AMD outer wheelhouse goes down to meet it "the blue" So my question is, is this stock? is it supposed to look like this? And do the older AMD quarters look like this? i did just get the new batch that AMD just got in. Both my new quarters look like this, the pictures of panel on the car is the drivers side and the pictures of it off are of the passenger side quarter, I dont think ive ever seen one of these cars that hasn't rusted out in this spot and been repaired long ago, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Blaine,
When did you take delivery? I have a brand new set as well that I received late August I can pull them down and take a look at some point this weekend to see if my stampings are the same.

I have a set I bought about a year ago. I can take a look at them tomorrow. My car is completely rusted out in that area so no point looking at it.

Bad part. My AMD's are not like that. I have 3 here. One for a 71 and two for a 72-73. Call them and send them the pics. They will probably send you a replacement. If available and not stuck outside the ports.

I've seen people that had to split the darn quarter half way down the side, and weld it back to get a body line right.
I hear some of the Tiwanize have bad eye sight!?
AMD will maybe quit making any Mopar panels?? Maybe China will take over with their superior work!?? LOL

Thanks, I just got mine in September, and be sure to check your passenger side body lines good while your looking

Man do i have a story about that, so i took delivery of first quarter panels and everything looked real good at first "beside this lowest part", i got them all unboxed and about an hour later when i took a step back i noticed something on the passenger quarter panel, or the lack of something, they FORGOT A BODY LINE, the lowest body line looked like someone removed it with a ball peen hammer before they did the EDP coating, so i called and got a customer service guy that was super helpful and went to the wearhouse to pull a new one for me, he said that for some reason all the passenger quarter panels from this new batch have similar defects but he pulled and sent me the one that looked the best, "note it still has the funky above mentioned issue". He also sent me new trunk extensions because mine got smashed in shipping because the packers didnt use any packing, but they too also have something i consider a defect, all four they sent have a awful looking dent thing on the lower part where the extension welds to the quarter, and i dont think thats what they looked like factory, again not sure because they too are rusted out in that spot, so now i have three quarters and four trunk extensions and all are wonky lol

This drivers side im doing now actually fits really good, i just had to tweak the door gap some but everything else is moving along good aside from this lower issue, i dont think they are gonna give up on mopars, especially when they are literally the only company that makes this stuff and they can charge whatever they want for it. They would be fools to give up a cornered market. And all this stuff is just stamped off a die so i dont think it matters to much where its made, its the final inspectors "in America" that dont even bother to do their job and expect the parts for damage and defects before they leave the wearhouse

^^^They ran out of 62-5 B body floor pan and said IF and when enough people put $ down for some they would maybe repop another run. So after quite a while they did and I bought a $65 sheet of 18 ga. and after measuring, cutting, braking, and welding, I had set welded in that would be hard to tell the difference and saved $500.
Every month I get heads up to their latest FORD pieces they have repoped. But I have NO FORDS!!!! Go figure.

Yea im getting tired of seeing all the ford and square body stuff too when there putting out defective stuff like this, the reason i got these full quarters is because i wanted to splurge and do the best job i can. I actually have a set of dorman quarter skins that i opted not to use because they needed a lot of work and filler to make them look good. Im trying to do a filler-free build, or at least as close to that goal as i can. I mean this latest problem isnt huge but i expect more for $500 a piece

There is one thing I have to say is the cars are 50 years old. Most are rotted. I am just thankful for them making mopar parts. Try fixing your car with a flat piece of sheet metal and a bender like we did in the late 80's. There is not that much of a demand for these parts anymore because most of the cars have been crushed. Supply vs. demand.

We were at the big general swap in Conroe, Tx. yesterday. Got into a little conversation with a Chey guy and he told me the reason few of that breed like 56 Chevys....NO one repops any sheet metal for them, just 55 and 57. He said the rear quarter is unique. Who could afford on 56 solid car for a parts car to get the rear qtrs off of!
I figure AMD stops repoping a part because the die is woreout, or not enough demand to do a run and take up warehouse space for how long. Dunno.
All I know is AMD seems to have little love anymore for Mopar in general.
Dunno.

Yea ive done a lot of hand fabrication on client cars, thats actually how i earned the money i spent on all these AMD parts, to do the job right without slathering it with a bunch of mud usually isnt easy and is very time consuming. But i feel its worth it. I was hoping getting the expensive quarter would make this job a little easier, i mean wouldn't you think that going from a $150 dorman part to a $500 AMD one? I know that triming and fitment alone takes a lot of time to do right but having to alter a noticable defect before hand, i didnt think i would have to do that, i am glad they make what they do but maybe they could just check things before the ship them.

i wasnt trying to make a post to complain about AMD, but maybe something to take away is check your parts really close as soon as you get them lol

I had that same issue with both quarters on my car. What I saw was that the unwanted body line should have been the actual break where the quarter turned under the rocker. I cut that pie shape piece out and welded the bottom back on and mine fit perfect then. Had to do a lot of small mods to these quarters to make them like the originals. They are far from perfect but thank goodness they offer them.

Your definitely right, and i just fixed mine today but i gave it a shot without cutting, i figured out the top most line was actually in the right spot and the one to keep, so i "very carefully" hammered out the lower line and put the hole quarter in my brake and bent the upper line sharper, the flange for the pinch weld ended up being in the correct location so i didnt need to remove any metal, just needed a helper to hold the quarter up in the metal brake, still needs some tweeks but its good enough for tonight

Excellent move! Im, by far, not a bodyman. First time I have ever done this. I can say that it was a job and a great learning experience for me. Thank God I had a friend that is a long time bodyman that guided me. This is not a job for an amateur for the cost of these parts. Looks great man.

Thanks man,yea body work ain't easy, ive been at it a little while but its always nice to have someone around to point out the obvious when i start over thinking stuff. But i can honestly say it took me longer to complain on here than it did to fix the quarter lol, im glad they make the stuff, i just like to vent a little to much, i plan to do a full write up on the hole job with pictures when i get this one done, hopefully it will help somebody out, yours is looking real good too

My thoughts. Taiwan bought the original dies from Chrysler and do not have the skill set ( die makers) to keep them in tune.
