Selective Service Draft Number

-
Mine came in 70 and was I happy as now I had ID to drink in any bar
Being born in 1952, I was in the very last draft.....We weren't sending troops to VN, hence the lottery cutoff was around 90.....I drew 84 and my orders to report came around September of 1972
I'll never forget, it was a letter telling were to report with one transit token scotched taped to it

I don' t remember anything about being "high or low," I was 19. Still remember a cold nasty raining late fall night about this time of year or November. A "U" joint had failed in my 57 Chev and a friend of mine and I got stranded just out of town. This was a VERY wide spot off a 35 zone coming into town, you could have parked 4 or 6 semis there with plenty of room. We had pulled the shaft, walked a couple miles to my Uncle's 76 station, fixed the shaft, and walked back, this was maybe 6PM. Just in time here was the ISP who had already called a tow truck, who I had to pay off to get him out of there. I was PISSED. The car hadn't been there over an hour or two, and it was 50' or more off the highway. ISP was just being a dick

So then I got home and walked in the back and Mom says "greetings"

Had to go into Spokane on a bus for physical, but signed up fro Navy. Later I had to go in again--myself--for Navy physical This was in a raging January blizzard about 10F and blowing and snowing. The 60 Falcoon I had would plug up the heater core intermittently. I had cleaned/ flushed it out AGAIN just for this trip. Got up early about 2AM and discovered NO KEYS (Found them more than 6 years later in my ham shack junk out back)

Got about 4 miles from home AND THE HEATER PLUGGED. I "thought" I had prepared....I carried some blankets and heavy clothes but I was still cold as hell when I got to Spokane for the Navy tests and physical

I went "in" on the "120 day delay" program, so my parents drove me to the Spokane airport --about 90 mi. from home-- in late May, ?? about 26-28 of May 1968

I was "designated" as electronics tech, so I had to agree to commit to 6 years. I did good in school at Treasure Island, and got Ground Controlled RADAR school in Glynco, GA, ended up at NAS Miramar for four years

Ham club at Treasure Island it was an all purpose place to relax, have fun, and "get away" K6NCG

I remember my number was 311.
Don't remember what low number they were drafting up to.
But anyway, i enlisted in the Air Force in 73.
Wound up in aircraft maintenance, as a jet aircraft mechanic, RF-4C Phantoms, (crew chief) and T-37 Trainers.

my lottery number was 137. which meant nov/dec 71. got my draft notice on pearl harbor day, 1970. went to kc's and was drowning my sorrows in beer. went outside to go home and cry some more. looked for my 68 blue/white top coronet rt. it was gone. called my gf and asked her to bring car back. i don't have it she said. was in front of kc's she said. ain't there now. 5 days later they found it burnt in a ditch 10 mile away. to make matters worse, i got drafted before the guys with numbers 1, 4, 8, 10, 12. they went to ft leonardwood in mo in feb. i reported in jan.

That's right boys and girls, the local draft board could screw you...
Only boys as of now. I think they are talking about making females register as well and I see that as a good thing because i would have without hesitation. Such wasn't the case when I turned 18 in like 2004.

I wanted to join the military at 18 because I had no idea what I was going to do with my life. I got met with a big fat NO because I don't meet the height requirement at 4'7". :elmer::soapbox::wtf:

High heels?

When I joined I was so grossly under weight, I had to eat bananas to meet the weight requirement.

'74 My number was 10. My old man told me in no uncertain terms "If you get a draft notice I will take your *** to Canada and leave you there." He was in the SeaBees during Korea. President Nixon relieved me of that worry.

My number was up! Thank you friends and neighbors for choosing me, three days after my cousin was brought home in a body bag.

Wow, talking about being at the end of the year, for that number.
The bad thing was that the local tv news repotted the numbers as they were called and some of the numbers didn’t come through. Most of the numbers that didn’t come through were low but once they straightened it out I ended up with 363.
