What everyone here needs to keep in perspective is that this is just one person's opinion of the tech staff and management of New England Dragway. Though I live right next door in Maine, I don't race there a lot, but I do try to go a few times a year. Yes, the tech staff at NED are strict. Let's examine why that is..... it's for SAFETY! Safety of the driver of the car being teched, safety of the other competitors, and safety of the track staff. This shouldn't be an issue. I know the first time I went to NED with my 72 Dart they went over it with a fine tooth comb. The inspector pointed out a few things to me that he felt could have been done better and I took care of those items. I remember last year I went to NED for a special memorial race and I left my helmet at home. The tech staff loaned me one so I could compete. I have no complaints with the tech staff at NED. I would much rather have an inspector tell me " Sorry Les, but we can't let you run until you correct this issue" than have it passed over and potentially having an accident in which my car could be destroyed, my life endangered or that of a fellow competitor or track staff. Now perhaps this situation with the FAST car gentleman could have been handled better by all concerned. I don't know, I wasn't there. But I do know that when my car was fine combed inspected there, the inspector gave me a detailed reason for why he felt something needed to be addressed.
I just think it's wholly unfair for so many to jump on the 'let's bash the track, the management and the tech staff' bandwagon just because on one person's experience or opinion. Safety is the bottom line and if you want to run a car that MAY be unsafe in the opinion of the inspector then go to a track where they aren't as professional or caring, and I hope it works out for you.
.....and your's as well is one persons opinion. Many of us have had thankless jobs or positions. Those who shine in those jobs are those who remember why they took that job regardless and being asked for clarification or a second look shouldn't become an adversarial act. Folks are paying your salary, however meager. IMO.

I wasn't at NED nor have I ever been there, but I've seen some post on Facebook regarding the tech issue. The pic of the tire posted wasn't the one that was in question, it's supposedly the one here.. I honestly wish more tracks would TECH cars, most places I race don't really care or look at anything other than belts.

That is the right rear on the car, Is there a break in the groove where that tire is in the wear bar? Also Shawn stated that tire could be swapped off the car for the spare. The tech said it didn’t matter the first tire pictured was not legal.

I am not that guy who is going to complain about teching a car. A while ago our group was at NED. They bounced a car from the group for a cracked windshield. Who brings a car with a crack? What a tool! Those are the rules! No sympathy from me, put it in the trailer.

I can see why it failed. Center of tire is wore down.

Let's get this thread back on track! Changed probably too many things but I guess we will see. Hadn't done an alignment on it since I put it together so I figured it might not be a bad idea to throw the heads on it. It was off a decent amount. Every little bit is what I am looking for..

It's that time of year to go and chase the numbers at Mopar Eastern Classis @ MIR. Oct 22-23.

I plan on taking the Duster out and see if I can't better the number some.

Looks like you got it done...... congrats!!

Rhett(furrystump) had a new personal best as well.

Might be a new best in the “air” dept too.....

Must be that was quite a front end alignment:steering:

Now everyone on this forum will be saying an alignment was worth 3 tenths on their car.

Whittling away. Lol. Air was good, not mineshaft, track was really good as usual. Did a best 60' of 1.50 60' which may be the quickest for any Mopar in the class. Found most of the engine stuff I tried was worth little to not much. Lol

This is the best class in drag racing !
The stock class is cool as well.

Bunch of little changes that probably won't add up to much but the car showed me some good numbers last time out that has me hopeful for better numbers in good air. It went 10.91@123 in 3700ft air and a so so track. Hoping for some mineshaft air!!

Clean engine bay and not a worm screw clamp to be found. Liking it.

I had a tech guy ask me if the clamps were a lightweight contraption, I told him they came factory, I don't think he believed me. Lol. Only real issue I had to fight through was waking up Saturday morning and going in the trailer to find the intake had fuel all over it due to a crack developed in the thermoquad. A good owner of a thermoquad always has a few tubes of epoxy on standby I have found..

Imo just looks more sanitary to me

The stock class is cool as well.

It has 915 casting J heads, ported with no welding and stock valve size, intake is a factory 71' with porting, no welding or epoxy, ported 71' exhaust manifolds, solid roller cam. Nothing super trick about it, just lots of careful details to get the most out of it. Honestly would love to do a different build but with no one close it's hard to justify it.
