As the title say I'm trying to find out what the difference is between disc and drum brake lower ball joints, is it the mounting hole size ? I'm located in Australia so there's not a lot locally to get hold of and measure. Thanks.

Its the distance between the 2 holes, and I believe hole diameter. Theres a kit out there for drum brakes and small bolt pattern hubs. It uses redrilled Toyota Previa minivan rotors, and mid 1980s Chevy Celebrity X car front rotors. Those same rotors and calipers may be available locally since both GM and Toyota manufactured this stuff in large numbers all over the world. May be a GM offering in OZ that used this caliper. The scarebird kits have brackets for 65-72 A with 9" drums, and kits with 10" drums. Not sure if there is a difference on the spindles between those drum sizes, since I always pitch that stuff in the scrap trailer, and use 84-89 M body big bolt pattern disc brakes.

Look up A body Kits for drum spindles from www.scarebird.com you can buy the bracket kits pretty cheaply and source your own stuff locally, or try Www.rockauto.com for the other needed parts wholesale online

If you're talking small bolt pattern, the threaded hole in the 10" drum ball joint just needs to be drilled out to match the other hole to be a disc bj.

It's small bolt pattern so that might be the solution, thank you.

DRUM brake ball joints are mounted to the spindle with 1/2 inch diameter bolts.
DISC brake (65-72) Kelsey Hayes disc brakes use 9/16 inch diameter bolts.
Drum brake ball joints can be drill out to 9/16 inch, no problem.
There is NO difference in bolt hole spacing, between drum or disc brake ball joints.

It's were you get into 73-76 A body ball joints.
They use 5/8 inch diameter mounting bolts, either drum, or disc brakes.
