Whiplash cam in Canada?

Heres the cam card… Can a custom grinder make one from this….?…

No, and yes...

They spec out .050" lift duration, and not 'advertised' duration there... Do you know the advertised duration numbers and what they are spec'ed at (0.000", .002", .006" lift etc)???

If not, I can estimate and interpolate some advertised duration numbers and give you some specs that you can give to a custom cam grinder and have one made...

We ran Rhoades variable duration lifters in our engine... They bleed down at idle and take out about .015" lift and 25° duration, then ramp up and give full lift and duration by 3500 RPM....

We ran stock stamped steel non-adjustable rockers...
That might be a good idea, but, that would make the Ica some 12 degrees earlier driving the cylinder pressure up.
If your engine was set up for max pressure with the late closing intake of the Whiplash cam, the pressure with the Rhodes could easily become excessive.
But I could see your idea working, in a well thought combo.

To the OP;
I am however no fan of the Whiplash-type of cam in the first place, and no fan of spending good coin on a Rhodes or rhodes-type lifter, to band-aid it up.
If I had a low-compression engine, (which I never willingly will) I would just fix that first, and then install a solid-lifter cam. Chances are, that in the long run, you will never be happy anyway with the combination of; a low-compression engine with a Whiplash-type cam in it. Especially with the price of gas rising nearly every day. I would plan ahead to run the crappiest gas, OOps, I mean the cheapest gas, lol.
Oh I already did that in 1999........
Over the Life of the vehicle, I saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars, in the price difference of 87E10 to 91Premium. That savings easily paid for the alloy heads and the pistons, to make over 11/1 Scr.
Jus saying.

AJ… I appreciate your point of view. I’m asking all this for my friend as he’s already assembled the short block and would like to avoid spending for another set of pistons and complete adjustable valve train.

Ok...we've resolved the payment and shipping issues. Now we need to talk to someone who actually has one of these cams in their 360 engine.

Can we run standard hyd. flat tappets on this cam? Dave recommended their HP ones (faster bleed down), which I assume are similar to a Rhodes , but they're out of stock.

What cam advance did you run? Hughes says +5* (in at 102*).

Stock pushrods, or custom length ones?

Anything else out of the ordinary we should know?

Thanks again guys. I'm learning along with my friend here.

P.S. You don't have to be in Canada to answer these questions!:thankyou:

Use factory lifters & have them re-faced! You will THEN know you have quality lifters in the engine.

deal with hughes direct i buy tons of **** from them , never had a problem paying with a canadian credit card
why can't you use whatever lifters you want besides hughes has no roller lifters they had to refund my money on that which they did no problem I must have spent over 10g over the last 3 years never had a problem Dave was always quick to reply and always had time to talk , maybe things have changed in the last few months ?

I don't know...that's why I'm asking. Dave recommends his “performance” lifters, but, of course, they’re out of stock. We got the payment issue worked out. He must be pretty busy these days as it takes days, sometimes a week, for him to answer an email.

So, who's actually run one of these in their 360? Would like some real-world feedback.

Granted I have a 440, but I am very happy with my Whiplash cam. Also, as for Competition Products, I drive past them 2 times a week. Nice having them close.

His roller lifters work well if you can get them , i'm using them now on my 426 stroker over 9,000 miles and no problems yet , my new build i'm using solid FT lifters not a roller cam as getting new lifters is getting hard Dave told me a few months back that they should have lifters by november

Quick question, @65Val. I am just curious why you desire a Whiplash cam so much? Summit or Jegs could probably provide you with dozens of choices. I really am just curious.

really I don't get the whiplash cam thing, so many choices out there , just call howards and have him make you a cam that will suit your build

My friend's not interested in buying new pistons as we've already assembled the short block using stock replacement ones. He wants the nice lope without having to run higher comp. pistons (and the higher octane...read; more expensive...gas). I don't know that much about Hughes cams which is why I'm asking questions to help us both learn.

what block he have what year? 360 340?? big diff not much info . what's the point of a loppy cam if the only thing he lopes is the mule ?why worry about gas prices , enjoy running gas engines while you can f the cost you'll be driving electric or something else in the next 7 years

i talked to hughes a few years back, wasn't impressed. went with bullet racing cams, they ground in the extra advance i wanted, dot to dot basically. good business etiquette in my opinion

77 360 with stock pistons /compression even with a cam it will be a dog , had 2 77 360's both had cranks walk on me they were dogs with low compression
