Torqstorm.. let's see how it does

-
I actually am curious, could one of these be ran along side of a roots blower? A blown blower if you will. LOL. Can a carburetor be a draw through and blow through at the same time?

I have a wild idea…

Im not sure, but I do know a few hookers that would fit the bill!

Seriously, the drag racers in the ‘50’s (?) turbo charged there super charged.

I mean... you could try it and see. It would be interesting.
Very nice!
Is there room for a mechanical fan?
What did you do for a fuel system?
Is the fuel system new?
By who & Cost?

I have an electric fan going back on.
I'll be running e85.
Magnafuel 300 pump, which I don't think will be enough so I'll probably upgrade to a 500.
Magnafuel boost reference regulator
Hp innovations blowthrough e85 850cfm, whenever he gets done building it.

Well I just got my torqstorm, so I figured I would post it's journey.
First off it's going on a 408 in my 73 dart.
This 408 was built for a little spray. Does not have a "turbo" cam and is 11.7:1 compression.
This is not a daily driver. I am also converting everything to e85 to help with any detonation issues that may show up.
I know this blower is small, but it will be a fun experiment and if I feel like I need to upgrade, I have 2 other small block a bodies this thing would feel right at home with.

First off it's well packaged, and it's Purdy.

The bracket is thick and everything lines up just right.
When I was looking into the kit initially I was worried about the crank pulley and how it was setup, mainly because I need the underdrive. That being said, the supplied pulley is a beaut. It is basically a March underdrive pulley designed with the blower drive, matches my old March pulley.

I have the supercharger all bolted up and lined up, pretty dang good. I did have to add a washer to help line up the bracket. But the kit does still work the power steering. Tight fit though.

It didn't take long to get everything bolted. Pretty streamlined. But now I'm stuck waiting for my e85 HP innovations carb to show up.
In the mean time I can start to change some of my fuel system over and remove the nitrous plate and wiring.
I'll keep you guys updated.

Did you tell them what size pulleys you needed? I spoke with their sales guy at Moparty and he was a bit of a jerk. I need provisions for a trigger wheel on my crank pulley (EFI crank sensor) and either he was tired of answering dumb questions all day or he didn’t understand what I was talking about. I’m very interested in buying one of these but damn, that guys attitude is making it hard for me. I’m hoping their engineers are smarter (and more friendly) than their sales guy. At the end of our conversation it seems like they can make anything I want for the crank pulley. (I hope so, they have insane CNC machines) it’s unclear if I’ll have to supply them with a drawing or if they can do it.

No I did not. I basically got lucky.

When I asked their sales guy a few months back about the pulley I didn't get much of an answer. Just "it's designed to be used with stock balancer". Which wasn't what I asked. Lol

Maybe calling them directly might yield better results than a sales guy over e-mail like I did. At least might get someone in design.

Holley sells a carb hat, that sits lower than the one you have.

Eh.. I don't care how tall it sits.. if there is a proven gain from one being taller or smaller I'll use it.. this is just the one that came with the supercharger.

There is a proven positive difference in fuel distribution using a taller hat in boosted applications, and it’s significant. If you have the space, the taller the better so the air has a straight shot into the carb. Some people just weld a 2-4” spacer to the hat bottom. It’s worth a quick email to your carb builder with a picture of your setup/hat. Maybe it’s fine, but maybe it will cause lean cylinders and melted pistons.

you gonna run it without a hood or make one a peek-a-boo for the carb hat and hose? Dual stage turbo and supercharging has been done as well as turbo-supercharging. IDK the benefits of dual stage supercharging (WW2 fighter plane engines, high altitude stuff) but dual stage turbos are not uncommon now, one feeding another in different sizes for a flatter boost profile.

As for the jerk salesman, contact the owner or marketing contact and tell them. Salesmen are just given the talking points and if he has trouble going off script, he needs more training or an attitude adjustment. Salesmen are a dime a dozen and some are better looking that others.....just look at grads with marketing degrees, most are hot women who can read the same script and are usually more approachable than a man. All can be taught the function of their product.

I'm sure I'll eventually get a hood that will fit..
I really like the sunoco hoods and it looks like it would fit the tube location pretty well.. but we'll see. The car is garaged so it's not an emergency to get one.

Oh yea, I've seen multiple dynos showing the taller hats that allow basically a straight down even turn make more power.
I wanted to get a csu carb hat and then make a v band pipe and completely get rid of the rubber. But that will be later on. For now I can at least test and make sure it will all work.

Secondaries are lean. This was on race gas, since the e85 carb hasn't shown up yet.

Turning the hat 45 degrees to the carb helps distribution also. And if you’re lean everywhere under boost you can add bowl vent extensions up and in to the hat extending forward 6” or so and it helps tremendously.

Yeah.. I'll really tune everything when I get the correct e85 carb...It seemed to lean out at full throttle... it stuttered and hit .95ish lambda. I was planning on vent tubes when the e85 carb shows up, as well as possibly making a new intake tube and hat.

but part throttle was really nice...

Where did you run the 'intake pipe'? Or just the filter on the housing?
I didn't yet... the filter won't fit with my valve covers. I was thinking about making a U and a turn and putting the filter up where the battery used to be.
