Changing from 7 1/4" to 8 3/4" rear end questions

Why are there spring perches cut off????? tell me you did not cut up a stock A body 8 3/4 :(

are the balance weights are rectangular it is probably OEM, if round probably not. BUT the tapered ends makes me think it is OEM
