WHY you should NOT worship "movie cars"

I built a FMX cruise-o matic and put it behind a 70 4bl Cleveland engine in a 72 Ranchero. Did a lot of street racing with it. Never ever failed me. That thing was down right uncomfortable when it shifted!
 
How about that switch activated Mad Max blower.

We had quite a few brainstorming sessions trying to figure a way it could work in reality.

Closest to the pin was- parallel FI to the blower intake and intake runners and secondary, controllable air source below blower with heavy duty A/C style clutch.
 
They had the black charger in the first Fast and Furious on display at Universal Studios.
I was surprised what a turd it was. Needed a complete restoration, rust everywhere etc....
 
Are those the V6's that look like V8's until you count the exhaust ports?
 
Movies have a budget. They aren’t going to wreck and trash the high dollars cars they portray in the finished product just to make you purists happy.
 
If I recall , when Warner Brothers sold off all the Dukes of Hazard cars, there was just a couple complete cars and 15 other partial cars. Most were low line 318 cars.
 
Same with Two lane Blacktop, in 1970 a 55 Chevy was a cheap used car...
OOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPSSSSSSSSSSS and yet another annoying story from the old days. When I was stationed at NAS Miramar, (70-74) I "knew" a guy from one of the squadrons everybody called "speed." Hell I never even knew his name. He had a ?? 63-4-5 Corvette ragtop. One day I saw it in the auto hobby shop, where I worked part time, and he was pulling the engine. The rear of the car was ALL FU. Bent up the frame, etc. He said he was "coming to the base" on Miramar road, and spun it on the wet night dew and crashed into a pole. (That WAS his story). Sitting in the next stall was a sun faded, but straight, bone stock 55 post with a six. He was putting the 327/ 4 speed into the 55.

"About a year later" I saw him driving on base in the 55. THE TRUNK LID was flapping in the breeze and THE REAR of the car had a huge "half circle" JUST AS IF he had hit a pole!!!

You would think he would of learn to upgrade the brakes. The wrong or out of adjustment proportion valve will or could cause your rear end of your vehicle to cross the finish line before the front, in a panic reaction.

LOL, juz' sayin but I doubt this had anything to do with brakes. More like "going to beat hell at night while drunk" etc

He claimed this happened on Miramar Road around the N end of the station. At the time this was a 55mph 2 lane highway. If you look at it "on maps" today it is totally different. The old 70RR has thundered down that a few times a bit faster than "you should."
 
Always like the movies where they are driving one truck then the next scene it’s a different truck. Went from a Dodge to a Chevy.
 
^^Or as good as some of the Bullitt chase was, the stupid double clutch 21 speed gearbox^^ WHICH WAS RE-used in several other movies and TV shows, SOME OF THEM automatics!!!

The sound of the Mustang was obviously dubbed in. I read a couple yrs ago that it was a GT40 soundtrack.

When the movie Bullitt was about 10 years old, one of the Mopar magazines interviewed the stunt drivers from the film and they said the Mustang was so slow they had to beef it up with headers, rear gears and I think an early NOS system. (Back in the day, I street raced a 68 390GT with my lowly 273 Commando/4 speed and beat him. Thise things were stones) Also things were breaking on the Bullitt Mustang from the rough treatment and they had to keep repairing it. They said the Charger was a far better car and could run circles around the Mustang. Count the number of hubcaps flying off the Charger. I have boxes of old car mags in my basement under the stairs and I'm sure the mags are there.

Also an article on the American Graffiti cars and 2 Lane Blacktop in a Street Rod mag. The 55 in those movies was the same car. The studio had it built by a CA hot rod shop and they took it to a local strip when they were done. It was a legit 10 second car. Nothing fake about it.
 
I always appreciated the high performance tow trucks, pickups, delivery trucks, or what have you that seemingly were able to keep up with the fast cars. Like Dukes, no matter the scene, every other car could keep up, even the old semis.
 
I get annoyed how obvious it is (at least to me) that cars are NOT driving as fast as they want you to think during chase scenes in movies. Sometimes they do a good job editing it to make it look faster but most of the time they just have a ton of quick cuts and keep the trans in 2nd gear with the engine screaming near redline so it "sounds" fast too. I remember noticing it in the movie Death Proof where the black Charger was chasing the white Challenger, there's a point where you can hear one of them accidentally shift into 3rd and the RPMs drop for a split second lmao. Bullitt and the ORIGINAL Gone in 60 Seconds are awesome because the cars were actually going that fast. Towards the end of the chase scene in Bullitt when they get out of the city onto the highway you can tell the cars are really hauling ***; the way they lean when switching lanes, the rate at which they pass other pedestrian cars etc.
 
Like when the cars land a jump and you watch the frame buckle in the middle with a shower of sparks and just drive on! My favorite.
