Bullet style muffler recommendation (Quiet Please)...yup, getting older lol

-
i have had a bunch of different muffs on my cars over the years.
These Kooks units are the best looking and sounding ones i have ever heard.
Get lots of compliments on how the car sounds. I have these muffs on it all the time when i race it or on the street.
I actually called kooks, and the rep told me I would be lucky to get a few years out of them before they burned up the packing inside. Be it true or not, kinda turned me off. I admit they do look the best though. Had the guy lied to me and told me they used some special packing thay never burned up, I would have ordered them then and there lol

had mine on for 4 years now, still sound the same…and frankly, even it they didnt, they are 54 bucks each.

No, I made the lower intake to adapt the high ram top. I’ve posted lots of pics somewhere here. @RustyRatRod do you remember what thread I posted falcon pics in?
I do not. I've seen them, I just don't know which thread. So is it a Falconda or a Honcon?

How long have you had them on there? Any signs of burning out and getting louder?
I want to say at least 2 years? Cant tell if there’s been any burnout, they use more of a loose and fluffy long strand Fiberglas packing iirc. They have gotten slightly louder, but not blown out loud. Still sound the same for some time now. The welds and finish are still holding up. They are 6” diameter, you probably won’t be able to fit something that big would you?

It’s a Fonda

I'll probably going to need some s bend extensions that tuck them up in the former crossmember area. Those little Schoenfelds i have on it now I think are 6, but they are also only like 8 inches long.

Yeah they are awesome and I think they sound a lot better than the bullets too
Are you talking the Dynomax race bullets? I tried those early on but they only sounded great screaming to the top end, otherwise at idle and around town not anywhere as nice as the Ultraflo’s, which have that unique sound.

Can confirm, the Dynomax race bullets are LOUD...that is what I have on my car, and I too am looking for something else. The only good thing about the race bullets is my car runs the same ET with or without my exhaust on...but around town they are a bit much.

Was talking about the Ultraflo's

You mentioned the Ultraflo’s sounding better than the “bullets” I was just assuming maybe you meant Dynomax’s race bullets. But I agree regardless of brand of bullet style:thumbsup:

It is a bit weird, they do classify the the welded round mufflers as ultraflows, but separate them from the case ultraflows, as far as loudness and marketing goes. They r on Amazon cheaper than even my commercial account at atech/summit also.

True. Originally was using the 4x9 17220 case Ultraflo’s but the welds cracked at the lengthwise seams on a total of three mufflers (replaced the first set that both cracked under warranty) but one of the replacement set cracked agin (likely due to the harmonics/vibration and the way I have them mounted IDK) so I went with the round. No issues anymore. I got mine from Rock Auto and got the extra %5 discount as well. About the cheapest I found (3” in/3” out version)

$74 for the round 17224 3.5 on amazon. thats crazy you kept blowing cases out on the oval type.

Now to find a shop local that can bend 3.5..... or find a pipe i can make work. need to get it in the air and do some measuring. this 54606 is a stock 5.6 cummins 2003 ram intermediate pipe, but i'm sure i'll need an "S" probably more-so than this, to get them where i want them.

Yes, I’m pretty certain even though I’m using proper rubber hangers and such, I may have certain vibration or harmonics present with how I had them mounted, or that they were subjected to quite a bit of higher rpm blasts down the track and street? IDk, but the rounds solved the problem and a side benefit was they sound better than the ovals

Flowmaster outlaw mufflers. They have a unique sound but still “quiet” haha

When I built my 3 1/2" system I used individual mandrel bends to get the system moved over off the headers and tucked up near the floor. The 90° bends to get over the axle. The bends weren't cheap then, they are even more now.
It looks like speedway has mandrel 3 1/2" 90° and 45°. I found them on Amazon, but speedway is the supplier.
Edit: I used walker (dynomax) mandrel bends. Looks like summit has some Walker 3 1/2 too.

That thing sounds GREAT! Definitely quieter than my Dynomax race bullets.
