USPS has raised their rates. Senders be advised.

As I've commented previously on FABO/FBBO/FEBO,... We (you and I) are subsidizing commercial interests (Amazon, Ebay, etc....)
We have no leverage against these behemoths especially given their lobbying advantages (bribes/payola) in Washington.
I've heard of folks gaming the system by listing items on Ebay (cheap) and "selling" to friends to take advantage of cheap ebay rates.
Yes rates are high and IMO don't see any relief.

Way earlier this year I sent 2 dampers (1 slant 6, 1 318) to Damper Dudes in California for refurb.
Cost me more in shipping than damper Dudes charged me for their service. Pissed me off badly.

Around the same time I sent a slant 6 camshaft to Oregon cams to be reground.
I live roughly an hour south of Chicago. To give an idea how far I had to ship.
Again shipping there and back cost as much as I paid Oregon cams to do their thing. Crooks.

You are lucky you are still getting 'service'. USPS has suspended air mail to many countries because of covid [ lack of planes in the air I guess ], including Australia.
Didn't bother to inform the sender or the receiver. Been waiting 5 weeks now from parts from Tenn. Tracking # just says 'in transit'. Could be coming by canoe for all that tells you.
Not the USPS doing that, it's Australia restricting it.
Don't know what they're telling you, but USPS was accepting parcels to Australia, they got there and were turned around.
USPS stopped after they were forced to return and refund postage to Australia.
But I want to stress, it's 100% not the USPS! They can ship worldwide with the exception of Australia, what's that tell you.

That's tax payers money
Yeah, no it's not.
The USPS is the 2nd largest income generator for the United States Government behind the I.R.S.
The USPS operates in the black every single year.
The burden placed on the USPS is why it's in the hole on paper every year.
The USPS takes ZERO tax dollars to operate.

Gun,
If you check the USPS website there are MANY countries where the USPS has suspended services. Australia is just one of them.
The USPS has at least three levels of Airfreight, Express Mail Intl being the highest & most expensive. This is still being sent & delivered here, the lower levels are not.
The USPS did not tell our supplier in Tenn of the suspensions, who had no idea. It was only after there was no movement of the tracking # over many days that we made inquiries & found out that the USPS had suspended shipments.

and print labels online
even schedule for a free pick up
just put the outgoing box in your mailbox, pop up the flag and bob's yer uncle

That is IF you have service at your house, which we don't. Mail boxes are about 1.7 miles from our house. No cluster boxes, just a mail box on a pole...which gets wiped out by the snow plows if we get any real snow. Not to mention the school bus stop is right there so needless to say mail disappears pretty frequently...

Hmmmm.......for the close to 20 years I was employed by that cesspool...the USPS NEVER finished in the black that I know of...

58 cents for a stamp seems like a lot compared to the nickle a stamp cost back in the early 60's. He'll, that was a half century ago. I can't start my truck and drive across town for 58 cents.
It costs $1.08 to mail a regular letter here in Canada with Canada Post.
Everything seems to be going up at a steady rate lately.
Also gone are the days of finding a mint low mileage HemiCuda for 5 grand........

$9.2 billion loss in 2020...hardly sounds like the USPS finished in the black THAT year...
They did. They covered expenses every year. In fact in 2020 the USPS made $71.3 Billion.
The problem with them "losing"money is....
1. There is a retirement prefunding mandate. The USPS is mandated by congress to prefund their retirement plan to OPM to the tune of $5.5 Billion per year. This means they were paying for the retirement plans for people not even born yet.
2. Every year, congress creates a budget. They have other sources for revenue, but the IRS and USPS are #1 and #2 . In 2021 the US budget was $6.8 Trillion.
Now, The IRS income is 3.5 Trillion, a little more than 1/2 of the budget. Congress in 2020, dictated that the USPS contribute $80.5 Billion towards the 2021 budget.
The USPS only made $71.3 Billion. They were $9.2 Billion short of the congressionally stated contribution. (Notice how the math works out?)
Since congress went ahead and spent money they didn't have, the P/O would go in debt and therefore lost money.
The Post Office actually turned a $2 billion increase in revenue last year. Any other business, that would be super, but with the USPS, that's considered a loss.

There is NO budget. There hasn't been a budget for well over ten years.

If USPS doesn't get one cent of tax dollars, where does the money come from to make up the defecits to pay the aforementioned pension payments?

Shipping is a concern with parts etc. I have found it to sometimes be 40% of the price of the parts. In fact I have had sellers that are surprised that I still want the part after they quote shipping LOL!

I explained it, I can't make you comprehend it.

I was going to post about the same stats, but congress has been basically stealing from USPS and our social security for a long time.
Time to make congress mandate a balanced budget every year.....With the funds they have available, not where they can steal them.

You guys talking politics here?

They just kicking the can down the road one day the US will be in the same shape as Greece was and then we have big trouble !

Nope, just the facts.
Your opinion. If politics are talked about in general forums there are a few options for you members. #1 Stop commenting about anything political, presidents, policy, government departments, etc. #2 I can start deleting comments (which I will do). #3 If problems continue, I can delete the thread. Any rebuttal about our decisions often times results in getting some time off the site. No bitching about that either. We don't babysit here. The reason why this site is so popular and respected is because there are rules and they are enforced. Just pretty simple rules and respect for the other members here. Just for clarification.

I just received a alternator in the mail shipped from Nevada,,,,was mailed in the mourning hours and I got it two days later received in New York
On the other hand a letter mailed a few states away could take 4 days to come....Go figure
And no I dont complain about some soul who works 30 plus years for the USPS getting a modest pension
Maybe some should have considered taking that path for a career

Often times we forget the postal service has expenses also.
They have to pay for fuel, maintenance on the vehicles, and equipment. You might say well they have people to to fix the vehicles and equipment. Yes they do but they also have to pay for the parts to fix them ,they aren’t free and those prices get more expensive too. Also they may have to replace vehicles or equipment.

They probable have some specialty equipment that needs a factory repair person.

As far as it taking a long time to get from one place to another. They closed some of their sorting facilities.
Several years ago they closed the one here. So instead of being sorted here and on it’s way to the destination it goes a hundred plus mile then sorted before the next sorting spot.
