What is the easiest way to remove a slant six from a 69 dart? It is a automatic on the floor console also. Car is stripped and no interior. Which engine mount should take off first? Just trying to figure out fastest way to remove this engine. Not much on You tube for it either.

Thanks,

Fastest for a slant six would be unbolt it from the transmission. Disconnect the headers and any fuel and coolant lines. Take the bolts out of the motor mounts and pull it. Getting it out shouldn’t take you more than a couple hours at most.

Would like to pull the motor and trans out at the same time. Floor is rusted and I can get to the trans mount easily. beleive 4 bolts and should come off

Two bolts from trans crossmember to trans, 4 bolts from trans crossmember to frame. 2 nuts on lower side of K frame motor mount. Fuel and electrical lines. Shift linkage, exhaust. Pull the pig out.

Having one of these is helpful

Unbolt both motor mounts, exhaust, driveshaft, disconnect any wires and fuel lines, remove radiator, put a floor jack under the transmission, unhook any linkages and unbolt the crossmember. If you don’t care about possibly scratching the engine bay, it should pull out from the top with the trans attached, you may have to take the hood off. For my setup, I like setting the k-member on the ground and unbolting the entire front end, then lifting the car over the top.

If you do it this way, the UCAs must be popped loose, front brakes disconnected, and the torsion bars slid back.

I could have my engine and transmission sittin on the FLOOR before you ever got your engine out separating the engine from the transmission. I don't know why people even struggle with taking it off the transmission in the car.

With a slant six it’s much faster than with a small block. For me personally it was faster. Didn’t have to mess with the linkage, drive shaft, or transmission cross member. Longest part was the torque converter.

Got the engine prepped ready to pull out with a lift tonight. Did it all with a flashlight in the middle of a field. Will lift it out Sat afternoon. Thanks to all who let me know what involved. Been about 42 years since I last pulled a slant 6 out of a dodge. Not bad at all pretty easy as Scody 21 mentioned.

The 2 bolt bosses on the head can be the chain mount tabs. The rear boss will balance the engine and trans, the front will balance the engine only. Kinda neat how that works. Id pull both at the same time using the front bolt as it will pull it at about a 45 degree angle, enough to clear the rad support, just pull the rad out so you got a little wiggle room. Once its up, just maneuver the trans tail up and roll the car back from under it.

I use both bosses with about a 12" length of chain. It's at the perfect angle to pull the engine and transmission both.

Well, I just got back from the field as I pulled the motor out tonight. I got started late at 9 PM as I was half way across the state today picking up my dads Crossfire car from a guy who fixes them out in Somerset area of PA. Anyways, I got it out by myself in the middle of the field with no lights and using a flashlight in between my teeth I hooked up the chain down through a hole on the front mount and hooked the other end of chain on the bolt that goes into the trans right near the trans dust shield. I pulled it out and pushed the car back and I left the trans mount on it. Came out relatively easy. Motor stayed level when I got it out with trans attached. Is t he vin stamped on the motor of slant six and on the trans side also? Car is a 1969

Thanks to all,

I remember dropping a 383 with a 727 in a 69 Dart, we had the *** end of the car jacked sky high and lowered the engine with trans bolted on right in with a cherry picker...i don't know how else to say it but it slid right in like a loose call girl...:)

I suppose you could get a 12 lb sledge and just "chip away" at it...:) hey no lie I once broke an exhaust manifold off a inboard boat motor with a sledge hammer LOL!
