74 Dart w/ 340 6 pack

-
Cool just know a guy from town who bought a new and I mean new t/a challenger back in the day he had lots of grief with it but that was 40 plus years ago
Keep in mind, some people understand the tuning and set up of those better than other folks too. What might be a fight for one person might be simple for another

That's what I'd heard about them back in the day. I'm just glad I found the right set-up for the carbs as it looks and sounds great now!

My two older brothers had the six pack set up on their 440s.
They worked well as long as you kept them stock and didn't dink around with the factory settings.
We followed the adjustments by the book, and didn't try foolish settings like making the linkage fully manual or stuff like that.
We just adjusted the jetting slightly for the bigger than stock cams and headers, and they performed great.
In fact, a friend of mine had a 440+6 69 1/2 Road Runner 4 speed that was all stock except a Hughes cam and headers that he adjusted the carbs to stock as for jetting, linkage, etc. and it worked really well.

I don't have any experience with the 340 6 pack engine though, but the 440s were great, and I can't see them being much different if at all as long as you use good premium gas.........

I was teenager working as a lot boy at a Chrysler dodge dealer and I can remember Steve constantly wrenching and swearing. Guess he was one of those guys that can’t tune carbs. Me and my boys own 700 Yamaha SRX when we got them I said to them Yamaha has built the most reliable HP they can out of this engine. Gas goes here oil goes there squeeze throttle have fun. It worked sleds have over 25000 k run great.

When I was doing my research on the 340+6 I found time and time again people talking about how hard they were to tune.
Then I ran across an article about tuning the six pack www.hotrod.com/articles/mopp-0801-mopar-six-pack-tuning
and the rest is history. Like anything else in life it's 90% prep 8% work 2%luck
That cool you can get it set up good cause they look great sitting on top of a small block. Had a friend who ha 3 duces on a flat head ford with an offy manifold and some kind of after market heads in a 50 ford 1/2 ton looked good

What a year but it's looking up.... after a couple of years of talking to people, I finally found a shop to do the Dart, to put in the new HDK suspension, paint the car again and some other upgrades.
If you read through the thread you'll know about my experience with body shops so I really wanted to find someone with the same passion for cars as me. Unlike the last one who was all about the money.
Already I can't wait as the shop is well known in the Bay Area and I have been waiting to get on the schedule. Looks like the car will be going in on the 27th and I'm optimistic I'll have it back early next year.
Looking forward to driving her again.......

I was lucky to have found this motor, it was a rare fine. I had all of the machine shop work done first.
I already knew I wasn't going to boost, because I was going with the 6 pack.
When the shop called and said everything checked out fine,
I use the set up that was there and the parts they had recommended for the build I wanted.
The 1970 340 block came with......steel forged crank......T/A heads and valvetrain......4.04 standard bore block......
for the tidy sum of $800.00.....Priceless Smiles For Miles, and a lot of black lines====

So this is the shop I've been talking about, here is a clip that I saw 6-7 years ago and knew that when it was time, this was the place I wanted to get it done by.
Fast forward to now, and after talking to Geoff @ Alloy Motors about the car, I can't wait to see the Dart when it's done.....

Well I went over to the shop today and took some pictures. The HDK front suspension is in and the RMS out. Looks great @HemiDenny, Alloy Motors put it in. Said everything went in smoothly. I’ll get better pictures next time I’m over there. They’re just starting to take it apart...I can’t wait!!

Correct me if I'm wrong. It's in the paint shop with the wire harness and wiper motor still on? :(

Yes, Thanks 72Dart6pack for pointing that out.
It's a jamb out paint job. (A little less $$ than a full resto)
This means they are not pulling the dash or the interior or the wiring.
Many, many pages ago I went to a "Painless" wiring harness which doesn't have a firewall (bulkhead) connector to disconnect the engine wiring harness. It'll need to be wrapped, but the car isn't scheduled for the paint booth until the second week of January. I heard the owner speaking to his guys about how they were going to wrap it this last time I was in.
As far as the wiper motor it's there because I broke one of the bolts as I was reinstalling it from the last paint job. I used a little JB weld to fix it so I didn't have to pull the dash off again.
Fast forward 10 years I told them it still works fine and that they didn't need to pull it, just cover it.
