I've been getting nags they are going to abandon the 3G stuff entirely, and have been looking for another phone. But I don't WANT a smart phone, and the flip phones available are a VERY VERY poor selection. I really did not want to spend a huge amount, but I finally caved and bought a big GREAT big SOB called a Kyocera DuraXV Extreme

........And of course the web based site to activate did not work..........

........And I tried calling support and that did not work.........

.........And I went up to my friends at the plumbing warehouse, and used their phone and thought I punched all the right numbers but the damn thing GAVE ME A NEW NUMBER.......

..........And then I could not get ahold of a "real person.".......

I FINALLY GOT HOME AND GOT "chat" to work (it would not earlier) and finally got someone to correct the "new" number back to my "old number."

BUT NOW THERE does not seem to be any way of transferring the phone contact list as the "wizard" was interrupted right in the middle of all the almost automation

The good and bad: IT IS HUGE, GIGANTIC, MONSTEROUS, in fact it's quite large
The speaker phone seems to have ONE HELL of a lot of volume (You can see the speakers at the bottom of the phone below the keypad)
The display is larger so maybe I can read it

This is not a smart phone, nor did I want one. That's RIGHT!! The new one is LARGER

ha, at&t gave up warning me and just sent me a new flip phone a couple months ago. the volume and being able to block #'s are the only good things about it. otherwise it sucks

When I had Verizon home stuff. MY, MY, ALWAYS overcharged by double then 1 or more hours on the phone with a Helpful Hindi to try and fix it. It ALWAYS got corrected, but the pai I. The *** Factor, makes me wonder, how many people DID THEY ROB!!!

Dammit, Del. You have the worst kinda luck with this kinda thing. lol

3G is dead... maybe some US Cellular stuff but the big three are done.

Verizon December 31 2021
AT&T February 2022
T-Mobile /Sprint January 2022

Think about a fixed rate virtual network operator. Reduces overhead and they don't kill you with fees

Cricket
Boost
Metro

They use the big 3 networks have lower cost but older phones... or you can bring your own device

Good luck

Been a metro cell customer since 08. Put the # / account, and caller ID as my Lil Construction company's name. Now? PIC ID REQ, must be your name on account and #

Yeah. Thank your local drug dealers and criminal element burner phone for the name and signature delivery requirement by the feds.

I get any sh*t out of Verizon again, Cricket is one possibility. I was with "Straight Talk" for awhile, which is a Wally World outgrowth of what was "trac phone" and they use Verizon hardware. I switched back because their customer support, at the time, was even worse than Verizon, and later, Verizon came out with a competitive (prepaid) plan

I dealt w/ a " trac phone " for a second in the 90s... again, i agree, No Customer Service, and just sometimes, non Service

So 3G is dead? Was that why my last two flip phones had a shitty signal? I got this cheapest possible (30 buck) smartphone and I must admit, it does receive very well.

I'm not a tech guy. I do not know. 4 g is most crap, I think. Now, 5g.... why the hype, the drama, then the stop o the rollout? I do not ,personally, give a darn bout it, not do I want it, or think anyone needs it. Heck, it's been in use for out weather stuff, I'm thinkin. Sorry Y'all, way off topic. But , I do Know, every 4g crap I've had, reverted to 3 g when signal issues arrived. I'm thinking short wave / Hamm soon.

Yeah, I got a early 70s Realistic Navaho 40 channel and an Antron 99 ready for the apocalypse. LOL

Right On! Cool deal! A Friend of mine "ex Leo" has been " testing and durability " checking hand held sets... uhf/ vhf, and other channel stuff...ain't sure the " tech" behind it, or if we could all bounce messages America Wide. But Im thinking it may help, to let Folks know " GOD'S HERE, and HELLS COMING!" hope Dell don't get pissed....

I had one of those! It survived a 30 foot fall on concrete.

One of my requirements for sure. My brat is a smart phone resident. Last time I saw her she had a bandage on the tip her index finger. "What did you do there?" "Somehow the screen on my smart phone cracked and I didn't notice until it was too late. Sliced my finger open." :BangHead:

Ohoh ... if the demise of 3G is bothering you just wait until your copper POTS lines go away ! Carriers are sending out notices and spinning off the support divisions. They cant just stop offering new lines due to their agreement with the FCC but they can discourage newlines by pricing them out of reach. I have heard of $600 quotes for 1 land line! All land phones in the future will be VOIP.

And 5G may be eclipsed by satelite before it even gets going !
Then you have Apple deploying orbs into space so you wont even need a carrier .

The big problem I see with 4/ 5G is the coverage due to terrain. This is sometimes called "path loss" in radio speak. When you get up into frequencies that are often referred to as "line of sight" (and this starts roughly with CB, when the "skip" is not a factor--------the signal loss due to terrain is such things as the moisture present, both humidity and in the soil, the type of terrain and vegetation, and whether or not there is snow

The higher the frequency, the worse this gets. This means, that "out here" in areas where you quickly get "out of town" and into more sparsely equipped backbone, the coverage is gonna get WORSE QUICK. Therefore the phone companies are going to have to actually build MORE sites to have the SAME coverage that the old 800mhz stuff had. But it ALSO means that YOU (I), out there hunting, camping whatever why, are more likely to "fall into a hole" where there is no coverage.

A possible secondary problem, is that since it requires more hardware for coverage, it is more likely that a site will fail, simply because there are more of them. And remember, when I say "site failure" a "site" also has to have a connection to the "network"--whether by fiber, satellite, microwave links etc and THOSE can fail

The last issue is that the U.S. gobt, and the FCC in particular, along with possibly the FTC has done a "zero" job of guiding companies into some sort of "standardization" so that cell coverage (could have been) seamless over sharing hardware.
