Was told it came out of the Petty garage years ago.....don't know if that's true or not but might explain the Petty blue color, lol
As few of those as there were and are, that's entirely possible.

Awesomeness!! As a footnote, all the early mopar engines built at petty's were painted "old ford blue" if I remember correctly

This is the first time that I have ever heard of such a manifold. Interesting! Did the TA 340 heads have oval intake ports or were they modified to match the intake ports?

I would say it’s highly possible they came out of petty’s garage, looks to have epoxy in the runners. Saw some developmental heads supposedly that came out of his garage with the oval intake runners that were epoxied like that. Was said to be part of the kit race car sold through direct connection development.

so it could have been a kit car development? LD340 just had the larger 340 size ports that the LD4B. T/A heads were stock square port not sure why this got the T/A moniker? still cool as heck.

All I said was based on an ebay parts lot for sale right around the time petty moved their shop. Parts were stated as such.

i don’t think the T/A label has any direct relationship to the 1970 Trans Am effort.

what is the casting date of the intake? (if there is one).

The 1970 T/A race heads did not have W-2 offset rockers and those special race heads had unique rectangular ports. They might have had the same casting number as street passenger car T/A heads. But they were not the same casting.

No casting date

That is wicked, ive been looking for one of those for a while. Congratulations, great find!

That is a W2 dual plain intake for use with W2 heads. for low end torque off the turns in roundy round or Trans am racing. I saw it and was interested but it has been cut for an extremely decked block. More then likely 900 deck height which was common. for Trans am racing or oval track short stroke. Note the holes have also been ovaled for fitment to the decked block. Basically a wall hanger. Its far from equivalent to a standard LD340

T/A heads were identical ports to 340 915 castings. The only difference was relocated pushrod hole so the pushrod bump can be ported out of the intake port.

I don't believe the manifold face has been cut, and a lot of intakes, several of mine included were intentionally slotted for not only different deck heights but also aids in the ease of getting bolts started. Wall hanger to you maybe but I guess if I ever did want to use it I know enough talented people that could easily overcome any issues that a person may encounter in order to use this on any deck height.

I wouldn't call it a wall hanger, I'd call it 'deck height challenged' and whip up some spacers! IF I had W2 heads....and the rockers..
