Another 318 Cam question.

I'm looking to get a new cam for my 318 build. i've got 1.88/1.60 valves with a 600cfm holley on it. police interceptor heads. i'll be using the kb 167 pistons for close to zero deck. crank and rods are stock 74 internals. Stock bore. Stock lifters, pushrods, and rockers as well. I want more power and a some chop but nothing too crazy because it'll be a street car. Anyone have any good cam recommendations

Nuff said.

Now that I got my daily dose of peanut gallery out of my system;

Look for RustyRatRod's 318 Hot Rod Bliss thread.

If you are looking at a Lunati Voodoo cam, dont get the 10200701 HFT. Go with the xxx702 or xxx703. If I were to do it again, I would go with the xxx703, especially with the compression you should have and valve size. If I remember right, @72bluNblu is running a xxx704, look for his posts on the subject.

New lifters no matter what. I wouldn’t run the Lunati 703 with stock valve springs at all. Even the 702 probably shouldn’t be, but depending on your driving habits it probably wouldn’t be terminal. Best solution for either would be to upgrade the valve springs. Stock rockers should be fine for 702, probably ok for the 703 too but on the 318 I built with the 703 I’m not gonna run stock rockers. Pushrods should be measured, stockers are fine if they’re the right length but they may not be, especially if you cut the heads for the right springs.

You’ll need to figure out the compression ratio too, the 167’s should help with that but you’ll want to know. Lunati has compression recommendations for their cams on their website, best to have at least thr minimum they recommend or you’ll make it a dog with too much cam and not enough compression. Gears matter too. I ran my 340 with the 704 in it with 3.55 gears for awhile, Lunati recommended 3.91’s and I now understand why, it didn’t like those 3.55’s on take off.
