I'm getting ready to convert my 69' Dart from column shift to console shift (auto trans).
I dug out the console I got 20 years ago and found a rotary switch next to the ashtray.
Is this stock or did someone install it?
If stock, what is it for? Thanks!

I'm looking at the wires to the switch on the underside. Looks like there are some tiny labels on the wires. I can barely read them. One says "Front speaker" the other "Rear speaker" and one "Power". Maybe it was for some old stereo install from long ago.
Thanks.
Does anyone have a pic of the console with the lighter in it? Guess I am on the search for one now...

in the Barracuda of the same years (67-69) there was a blanking cover over that hole.

Not sure if there was ever a lighter installed from the factory in any car.

Someone installed a front/rear speaker fader switch in place of the cigarette lighter. IIRC, not all consoles had lighters, many had a chrome button to fill the hole. You can probably get one at a hardware store.

Before "stereo", there was a rear speaker option on some cars, not A-bodies. Slight improvement over single dash speaker.

Here's a suggestion for your car. Its a USB charger port that fits perfectly into the hole in the ashtray assembly in the console. This is a pic of the one in my car 68 Barracuda, Works great! Available from Retro Audio systems.

'66 Barracuda had the lighter there if you had a console. There was no place in the dash for one. Non-console cars had the lighter attached to the underside of the dash.

If you decide to go with an actual lighter, make sure you get the factory circuit breaker, or, a fuse the correct size for the system. If you've ever pulled the lighter insert and had a penny fall in that hole, you'll know exactly what I mean! :BangHead::mad:

Also I believe 69 was the first year that included the latch, unless it was 68. I remember my friends 69 had it but his brothers 67 didn't.

I thought '70 was the first year for the push button latch. Maybe late '69 had some?

My 69 console has no lid button (Apr build) and a chrome button covering the hole next to the ashtray. I like the USB port use of that hole. Nice!
