Ok FABO guys & gals, please educate me!

I have a 318 engine with 714 heads.

The heads have this port in them...

The intake I bought (listed as correct for 67& up 318) does not have a matching hole...

This is the intake gasket set I bought (due to the port in the heads)...

So, did I get the wrong intake manifold and gasket set? Or does it matter?

Thank you for any replies.

Heat crossover... it'll take a Lil longer to warm up, But, with out the heat going to the intake, you'll have a cooler, denser charge. Making more power...most aftermarket mannys have that deleted

Ok, interesting.

Thanks for the info

I guess I should mention, this engine is going into a 1975 Trailduster, so I'm not looking for any sort of fire breathing high HP monster.

As long as it's not going to have any serious negative affect, I feel okay running it.

Imo You may not be happy with the cold start blues depending on how cold it can get in your neck of Texas.

Who painted the intake side of the head, need to get that gasket area cleaned off or you might have some "suprise" leaks.

When I was daily driving my 66 Sat w/ my 340,I ended up doing a manual chake cable...holley strip dom... it don't get really cold in Tampa Bay, but does every now and then. Problem solved @ 20 ° starts, when it does get that way

I managed to keep the restoration pretty low budget so far, so I'm gonna splurge for a Holley Sniper or FiTech system. Hopefully, cold starts won't be too much of an issue.

Yeah, that's how I got it. That was the first thing I noticed. I've got a wire wheel all ready to go, should be cleaned up in no time.

That paint goes down into the ports. Be sure to clean ALL of the paint off of the valve stems, it can make sticky valves.

No to the wire wheel you don't want to risk gouging the mating surfaces. A razor blade will do the trick.

Not just the intake surface, they painted that entire head.

I think you would be better of with the composition gaskets for this job, rather than the ones you have pictured. Copy of your picture below.

Jonn, Well what manifold is it? Can you take some good pictures of it? That would help us give advise. Is it aluminum? You can get intake manifold gaskets without the opening for the heat crossover port. It may be thicker so dry fit the manifold first before deciding if you are going to use the cork end rail gaskets and or some high temp silicone there. Obviously you will need a manual or electric choke, depending on what carburetor you will use.
