Dual Scoop Holes

I currently have factory style twin scoops on my car. The previous owner never cut the holes to actually allow air in. I have the gaskets for the holes but before I start cutting I had a question. What happens when it rains? Did the factory set up have some means of water diversion like in factory air grabber set ups? With me having a K&N air cleaner filter and lid would my filter just soak up a bunch of water if I drive in the rain?
 
The hood scoop seals have a pretty tall wall which works like a dam.

Also, I suggest making a few practice holes of various sizes (in some scrap metal or plastic) to test fit your scoop seals. I purchased my scoop seals from Detroit Muscle Technologies which called for 4 1/8" holes. In hindsight I should have gone with a smaller hole saw.

That’s where I purchased my seals as well. I should go and measure them. I had planned on hole sawing them a little small and creeping up with a sanding disk.
 
Like mentioned, the gaskets sit up high to keep the water out. The scoops actually have small gaps in the back to let the water out. Do not seal them completely to the hood.
I used a 4 1/8" hole saw on the last ones I did. The gaskets fit nice and tight.
 
I actually opened the package with the seals for the first time tonight and I see what you guys are talking about. One side of the seal line is much taller than the other. I’m glad I started this because I probably would have installed them upside down assuming the less rubber above the hood would reduce wind turbulence and not really thinking about the water side of things.

My neighbor had a 4” hole saw on the shelf so I’m going to use that. Figure that will give me some room clean up the edge as needed.
 
Im looking for a set but Detroit Muscle does not ship to Canada, Im screwed:mad::mad:lol need a supplier up here

Find a freight forwarder (or friend) on the south side of the border and have Detroit Muscle ship to them.

We use ours in many places for floor and firewall plugs. Bought both large and small Dia. kits. Google Hydraulic hole punch many come up for less money. The one I have will steel also

Note, No damage at all to the hood on the body line. You can buy just the 4 inch die and use a nut and bolt to pull them together. Very clean hole when done. We use ours in many places for floor and firewall plugs. Bought both large and small Dia. kits. Google Hydraulic hole punch many come up for less money. The one I have will steel also

So aren't those installed upside down. Based on this thread the taller part is supposed to be up to block water from coming in. As for my progress, things changed and the car is in the body shop now so hes going to drill the holes out for me before he paints the hood.
