words that irk me

Preemies weighing less than a pound can be put in an incubator and survive and lead a good life. They'll spend a long time in the hospital and some of them may have a challenge of some type but if they are weak they may not survive like my cousin's son, his lungs weren't fully developed. It's nature.

here in the US the guideline is by gestational age (time since conception) and i was actually wrong about the bottom, it is between 22 and 24

if a baby is born premature with less then 22-24 weeks of gestational age and it gets in trouble (stops breathing, or looses his pulse) the pediatrician will not attempt to save his life, given the understanding that the child has not developed enough to thrive and will most likely not make it to adulthood
