Second Generation Barracuda Year to Year Differences

-
Ever wonder why there are so few 69s compared to 68? I heard or read somewhere that about half way through the 69 model year, pictures of the 70 Barracuda appeared and 69 sales went FLAT. May not be true, but that is what I heard.

Sales may have gone flat but I believe there were more 69s built than 68s by 20,000 units.

Let’s see…

the key switch in the dash is mounted differently every year, and the wiring is different for them as well.

the glovebox door and seat backs did not lock in 67, changed for the new safety mandates in 68

the 67 dash frame is solid under the dash pad, whereas the 68/69 are relief cut, again for the safety mandate

dash pad is one year only for 67 with the raised relief down the middle

The heater controls and cables mount different for 67

thumbwheel radio in 69

door inner structure is different for 69

I’ll think up some more later

* Thumb wheel radios first came out in 68 Barracuda's.

I'm curious if they put them on any of the 383 S cars but especially any of the convertibles due to structural concerns.
Ah- makes sense. You know, way back in the late 90's, I had a 68 340/4spd fastback. I can't remember if it had them or not. It is possible stick cars and the big blocks would get them. I don't know why I have always loved these 3 years of cars, but there is just something about them!

My '68 is a thumbwheel radio. I'll try to remember to get a picture after work today.

I would normally say that 68 was a thumbwheel also, but this cluster is A/C, the car was an A/C car, it has the 68 speedo, the lighter to the right of the radio, the 68 heater control mount, it’s just weird to see. I guess it could’ve been swapped over and reworked, but it would’ve been a long, looooong time ago!

Or if it was a very very early build car and they just threw it on there. Stranger things have been done.

You also have to toss in the many cars that have modified over 50+ years to confuse many!! From wiring to you name it.

My 69 340/4spd has both front and rear torque boxes (assuming I know what I’m looking at). Original B3 paint on the rear.

I have personally seen front & rear torque boxes on a '67 273 4 speed Formula S convertible and on a '67 383 4 speed GTS convertible.
