Any AMC gurus out there in Moparland?

This '68 was for sale about a half-hour north of me for $9500 last month. Luckily for me, it sold right after I looked at it, because I was starting to think about it and I don't really need another car, especially one I wasn't really looking for. It had a six-cylinder/automatic with a shifter on the column.

I’m currently building a 71 javelin at the moment with 232 inline, 3spd automatic but I’ve built several Amc javelins as well as a few early year ramblers. Parts wise for the javelins aftermarket parts are getting better IMO, but for early ramblers hell no. I like them because they are different and unique and you can still get them fairly cheap just gotta look around.
I agree with you I do like the early Ramblers because they are somewhat unique. I admit I am very conservative on buying any model of anything because I know what it takes to make a "car" out of any project!!
I am so old I have gotten over the extreme need for speed I just enjoy cruising!! Sixes are fine!!
Everytime I find a decent car at a decent price it is always 500-600 miles away in Ok Ar or Ms!!

At estate auction Paid up for it

I found. A 71-74 cowl induction hood for a Javelin, factory, i great shape. Will posT pics soon

My wife always wanted a 71 amx and after buying her one and building it with her (she did a ton of work) I really grew to like amc's. they did have allot of cheesy stuff but allot of good too just like any brand I've dealt with. This is her amx with my old duster in the background at a car show some years back.

You can get a plain 71-74 Javelin and make it an AMX clone.
If you want to cut it in half and take about 8" out of it. An AMX is, basically, a shortened Javelin. That is what I have read and heard.

I have been thinking of going on the hunt for a 68-74 Javelin or AMX project. I realize it is a way smaller world that even Moparland, but I admit I am somewhat tired of overpriced Mopar projects, and I am not even talking of second gen Chargers or any Roadrunner! Even every Duster project I see these days is a POS and stupid $ for what it is. LOL
I enjoy learning about new things and I have little detail knowledge of building AMC. I bet there is precious little if any repo stuff for those. Probably a close knit group like Mopar was back in the 80s, 90s and thats good.
We had a guy in our Mopar club who had a 68 AMX; 390, 4 speed, Go Pack. About 12-15 years ago, he asked me If I would pull the seats and put in his carpet, install seat covers and install door panels. We agreed on a price, and he brought the car to my house. When I pulled the carpet, the front and rear floor pans were badly rusted and covered with fiberglass and undercoating. Anyway, I easily found the floor pans and found several places that sold a lot of AMX stuff. I will grant you that AMX and Javelin parts will not be super plentiful, but they may not be as hard to find as you think. I love AMXs. If I ever came across a decent project car at a decent price, I may have to jump on it.

No worries here this car is SOLID!! Paint on floors under original carpets shine original.

AMC is something like Mopar, if you want the high profile AMC's like an AMX, a Machine, a Scrambler, or a Javelin, be prepared to pay the big bucks as many of these had model specific parts and there weren't a lot of them to start with. A Scrambler tach, $1200, a Machine intake, $1500, a set of Machine wheels, $5000, a complete Ram Air setup for an AMX $3000. This coupled with spotty reproduction offerings make AMC a real challenge. But I am not trying to be a pessimist, just a realist. And I think I have a bit of experience as I own three AMC projects, a R/W/B Machine, a '70 AMX, and an SC/Rambler.

The good part is I am now old and having a hemi, 6 pac, AAR, etc means nothing to me as I had all them a couple or so decades back. IF i were to go after a AMX lets say, it would be a complete car.
IF I was one of the guys that just has one car at a time I would be more selective, but I have always had 3 or 4 or 5 or so. I have been considering a Hornet. Yea I understand anything bit after 71 is not a good investment, but I am not an investor!! I did have a guy text me about a SC360 Hornet I need to inquire on. But I would like the six cyl. Hornet like I like the slant Dusters. I don't need speed to chill these days. Condtion and price drives me a lot.

Here are 2 locals from the Kenosha area, Dad in the yellow Rambler and his 18 year old daughter in the red Rambler. These cars were made to race if you ask me. AMC's were made in our city and at one point we all had 1 or 2 of them in high school and after

I lie the look of those early Ramblers, plain but shows style and they look like racers like said. Did I say I like plain!!??
I was watching an episode of what /Roadkill Garage or was it their buds?? they built a stock ish AMC 401 and put it on the dyno. It did mid 450s in hp and torque if I remember.
I see some of those mid 60s Rambler 2 door projects go around here on FB Marketplace with very fair ask prices occasionally/
Usually slant cars. If I bit on one I would have to get an AMC engine (v8) for it. Can't help it.

Worked on wiper spray today is working, horns not working........
Tried adjusting, cleaning, grounding, no win. Will put aftermarket for now.
Need jack lug wrench and extras.

That is correct for the early models but the 71-74 are just javelins with the amx option (same body).
