Wow, I saw that and pictures that confuse the hell out of me. Is there are dates on those photos? I’m betting they are the first run so that would be early March?? The Dart wheel well cutout looks very early. OR they were the very last run and they took them off the assembly line after paint.

With everything being said I would love to see photos from back in the day with a seat in a BO or LO folded forward……just one. I’m not saying I don’t believe everybody but I sure would love to see it.

I have come up with three different scenarios that could explain this but there so far fetch I won’t even post them!! LOL!!

PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THETE IS A “ENGINE STARTING” TAG IN THIS CAR!!! Those were installed at the end of the assembly line…..I thought these cars were pulled long before then! I give up!!
There is no assembly line at hurst

Correct but there is a big difference between Feb 1968 and June 1968. Just wondering…

Yes, good picture and considering it is taken from an angle from behind, the gap between the tire and the front lower lip of wheel well, is connciderebely bigger than on production cars, even bigger than on this Dart...
Note (about the same angle) on the production car how, at the bottom closer to the rocker, the wheel well line cuts in sts.
We are talking an inch at the most, at the very bottom, that was cut off at some point...
I don´t beleve this myself really, but is it possible rear quarter was prefab at Chrysler, on the bodies that vere ment to be shiped to Hurst. Think they had the time to do so on the first run of Cudas... second run not likley...
How tall are the tires, on cars leaving Hurst?

I have now found the picture I first made to compare and saved, when i saw the picture of the Cuda taken at Hurst and posted on a forum a couple years ago. This picture of a production Barracuda, is taken from close to the exact same angle as the Hurst pic. Acctually a little further forward, witch makes the wheel well line go more stright, making the difference look less compared to the Hurst picture.
Disregard the three picture shown in this post.
I post three new picture in next post.
Remember, we are talking some 1" at the most at the very bottom of the wheel well. Inside is the wheel tube. Cutting line than gradually goes upwards to meat edge of wheel well some 10 inches up. So not a whole lot has been cut of.
I have earlier posted picture of the Mule Car, that also have this cut done.

Yes, thank you davescuda for shearing...

And add another 1/4 of an inch to the first picture. This much does the offset front spring mounts, put the rear axle forward. Meaning the gap appears less than it in reality is.

The barracuda wheel well is not opened up. You would definitely see it. It comes straight down like all of them.
 
One thing WE need to consider is the offset of the BO wheel is far more than those of the painted wheel. The wheel is pushed in away from the lower lip making it look like there is more clearance. The tire on the painted wheel IS closer to that lower lip because of the wheel offset is stock.

The mule car was a one off car that had many non production modifications done to it for testing purposes. The mule was a test bed. There were many items on the car that never went into production. The mule even had a water cooling system on it were they would hook a hose to it and it would spray water on the trans case and torque converter so they could make back to back passes on it without overheating the trans. Not kidding!

The tire used was a 7.75-15 that is just under 27” tall.
 
This topic went from seats to rear wheel well cutouts on a Barracuda, fun stuff! I going to leave this here and see what everybody has to say. This is from Bob Tarozzi personal notes. Dated 11/14/67. Look at line “E” . “Flair rear quarter panels for tire clearance on Darts only”.

This is good stuff. Thanks for sharing. In my opinion they may have rolled the Barracuda wheel wells but they did not open them up. If the did roll them most likely the front of the wheel well at the very bottom. It is close with a 28 inch tall tire. If they changed the wheel well shape at it would be very noticeable.
 
I have always said that I’m going by the way of “The way the engineers intended the cars to be”. Should the seats fold?…..no…but did some leave Hurst with folding seat….probably. Were the Barracuda’s intended to have a modified wheel opening?…no….did Hurst get feedback from people to open up the wheel opening?…maybe….did they get opened up…maybe.
 
If any of this area (Arrow to arrow) was opened up (I know I would notice it right away) it would be so noticeable. I goes almost straight down.
