I am coming in in the middle of a conversation. But, I had to scrape the paint/rust/stuff off the tank where it meets the strap and did the same for the strap. Once I did this, my gauge works great now, every time. The windings on the sending unit do not conform to mfg specs, so my gas gauge says almost full when full, 3/4 tank 2 gallons away from full, 1/2 tank at 3/4rs tank, and it reads 1/4 tank at half a tank, can't fix stupid I guess. I don't know why aftermarket stuff is made not conforming to factory specs, but A body tanks are strange, they don't empty like a cylinder would, but empty faster at the first 1/2 and slower at the second half to make room for the spare in the trunk. Not sure if that is perfectly how it empties, but the windings on aftermarket stuff assumes it is a standard tank.
